Stupid library vent

This is a serious FWP.  Normally I love my local library but I am so mad at them right now.  For several years they have been part of the statewide elibrary so I have had access to tons of ebooks through that.  There was an awesome selection and I hardly had to wait to get a book.  Yesterday my local library sent out an email saying that as of today they are launching their own elibrary and we won't have access to the state one.  I just looked to see what they had and the selection is terrible and I lost all of my holds from the old system.  It's so frustrating; I don't understand why they would trade a great system for something mediocre.

I'm seriously considering trying to get a library card in a neighboring town so I can still access the state's elibrary.

I was going to suggest that, too. The Roanoke library near where I work (I live the next county down) allows anyone with a valid Virginia address to have a library card, so I'm forever playing my holds for Roanoke and Franklin Counties off one another in the hopes of getting ebooks quicker.

  • Even though my town is part of the Central Mass library system, I can register for an Ecard with the Boston Public library.  Their selection is SO much better.  Would you be able to do the same?

I'm not sure; I'm going to have to do some researching.

  • I have 3 library cards -- where I work, where I live, the city where my kid goes to school (I was a chaperone for a field trip and it either didn't get noticed that I don't live in the city or they didn't care).
