NMMR: Trying to get pregnant and those who are pregnant

Since The Nest boards are pretty dead, especially the Trying to Get Pregnant one I wanted to invite those who are currently trying to get pregnant, thinking about getting pregnant or who are currently pregnant to a forum that I participate in.

www.thencomesfamily.com

There is an amazing bunch of women on the boards who have a wealth of scientific based knowledge about getting pregnant, infertility and pregnancy.  They don't mess around with the old wives tales and pictures of things people have peed on (ew!!!).  There are boards dedicated to getting pregnant, infertility, pregnancy loss, adoption/fostering, pregnancy, birth month boards and a lot of other stuff.

I hope to see you there!  I mostly hang out on the Trouble TTC and IVF board and lurk on the Gettin' Knocked Up boards.  My username is the same as it is here...

Thanks for the rec! I've tried to get on board with The Bump, but Babies on the Brain isn't a perfect fit for our situation and I can't stomach the way posters treat each other on TTGP.

Most of the members are old Bump members who started their own site a year ago after a huge fiasco between the Admins/XO Group and the regular members.

There is some snark, but it is pretty mild all things considered.  The biggest thing is to read any pinned messages/blogs on each board.  That will give you an idea of the board culture.

For example on Gettin' Knocked up it is severely frowned upon to post random symptoms and ask if you could be pregnant (major snark will be the result) or to post pictures of pregnancy tests or OPK tests.

On 3TTC/IVF they ask you to put a trigger warning if you mention living children, pregnancy loss, or other people's pregnancies.  This will allow those who are having a bad day to avoid the post if they want or at least not be shocked when a sensitive subject is brought up.

  • I'm sad that the Getting Pregnant board on TheNest has pretty much died.  That was a big support group for me when we were TTC and having trouble TTC.  I've even met quite a few of the girls in person.  I'll lurk around that one and see.

Only thing I find, is I already have DD so a lot of support groups are hissy if you touch a TTTC group when you already have a child.  So here we are having trouble conceiving #2 and am having a hard time finding support again.

TTC since 1/13  DX:PCOS 5/13 (long, anovulatory cycles)

1/14 PCOS / Gluten Free Diet to hopefully regulate my system.
    Chemical Pregnancy 03/14

  • Thanks for the recommendation, April! I do like BOTB/TTGP on TB, but I will check out that community as well.
  • Thanks for putting it out there April!  I actually joined TCF last fall when we first thought we'd try right away.  I haven't been on in a bit since now we're not actively TTCing til fall/winter but I did enjoy posting there, much better than TB.

There are two groups that might work for you.  One, I'm pretty sure you will be welcome on Gettin' Knocked Up I know there are others who are trying for additional children.

There is also a board for Secondary Infertility/Trouble TTC a Sibling.  I'm not on that board unless I'm super bored so I'm not sure how active it is but there are people that post there.

  • When I was pregnant with DD I spent time on the bump trimesters and birth month.  Gawd I don't think I could do it again.  The snark, hate, and all that stuff just irks me.  If they were full of people like this board I could do it.

Take a look and see! I don't think the snark is anything resembling The Bump levels (or even The Knot levels for that matter) unless you are just really insensitive to the board culture. And if you all go over there with me then it will be even better. :)

It's not a forum, but I follow the (never)homemaker blog, and the writer of the blog is currently pregnant with #2 but had difficulty conceiving her second child and wrote a lot about it.  http://www.neverhomemaker.com/search/label/ttc  She wrote a couple posts about the difficulty in discussing secondary infertility when you already have a child.  I am not TTC but I found them interesting to read. she has had a miscarriage previously and writes about that as well, and she doesn't hold back much about her emotions with everything, so just a warning if thats not something you want to read) It won't give the interaction/support piece...but I thought I would pass it along.
  • @kmurphy2131 Thank you!  That blog is wonderful.  I feel like I can relate to a lot of what she's talking about because she mentions having chemical pregnancies.  We've only had 1 miscarriage, but are up to 4 chemical pregnancies. It sucks and gives you false hope that things worked.

She posted today actually outlining the whole timeline of everything.  She's a great writer, I think.

I am so sorry for your difficulty, I wish you best of luck.
  • I got annoyed with TB this morning, remembered this, and registered. Does seem like a bit of a chiller vibe while still being funny and science oriented, which is what I like about TB. I'll lurk a little before jumping in. Do you have the same sn over there?

I'll check it out but will probably wait until DH and I start trying.

I teased him last night and got all dressed up which I never do and said "lets put a baby in there" lol - I know he wants to wait a few months
