Did anyone see Blackish on Wednesday? H and I just watched it and were like wow, that is spot on. I recommend it to the rest of the MM board.
The main characters discover they are not in as good of financial shape as they thought and part of the cause is lack of communication from 1. parents not talking to kids about finances 2. couples not talking with each other 3. people not liking to talk about money in general.
I've never seen a sitcom handle finances in such a true way.
Re: Blackish is MM
ETA : I ended up watching it last night, I thought it was great and definitely highlighted how you can make big salaries but still live paycheck to paycheck if your spending is out of control. I also liked the grandfather's point of view as someone with a low income whose "financial planning" is basically how to keep his family fed and clothed. All around it's such a good show and hopefully will start a lot of conversations in families where money isn't discussed!
