Not MM--Health & Fitness board

So, I've really been trying to get healthier by losing some weight (30 lbs. would be nice) and lower my cholesterol.  I thought since I was hanging out on TN, I'd go check out the Health & Fitness board to see if there's any Fitbit users or any good discussions over there.

Nearly every post is about breast augmentation and/or rhinoplasty.  Eh.....................no offense to anybody that has had plastic surgery, but that's not what I was expecting when I went there.  I guess that's why I never leave the MM board!

Anybody here have any favorite community forums to chat about healthy habits, weight loss, Fitbit, etc.?

Re: Not MM--Health & Fitness board

  • I just took a look at the board. That's odd, it wasn't like that before. I don't frequent health message boards but read articles I pin on Pinterest. I use MyFitnessPal and have a Fitbit but just use the apps. I also have a great friend that helps keep me on track. We often text about meal suggestions, what we're eating and work out info. We keep each other accountable.

  • I second the MyFitnessPal mention above. It's good for tracking calories and they have a discussion forum. Sometimes the discussions are a little crazy (especially in Chit Chat Fun & Games) but for the most part people are really helpful over there. There are a lot of newbie discussions on there that talk about how to get started and use the system. Might want to give them a try. I believe they even have a Fitbit users group on there.

Also finding a friend to do it with is a good idea. From personal experience I would steer clear of posting on social media and all telling people that might not understand your goals, it can lead to negative comments.

I also do a lot of pinterest searching for recipe ideas. Skinnytaste.com has some great recipes too!

  • I have both MyFitnessPal and Fitbit loaded on my phone with a Charge HR on my wrist as I type this.  I go between both apps depending on what I'm doing.  I haven't looked at the Fitbit forums too much.  I think the MyFitnessPal forums are good when you're new, but I'm pretty bored most days at work and used to spend a lot of time on there and find it very repetitive, so I stopped reading.

  • I've heard the fitbit is pretty awesome.  I don't use it.  Back when I was getting rid of that lovely baby weight I would count my calories on a website called spark people.  I think they had chatrooms there too.

I'm definitely checking this out tonight!
  • I don't have any suggestions for forums and the like, but if you're looking for types of workouts to do, I highly recommend HIIT workouts. I like them because they don't require a lot of equipment or time. But trust me when I say that they're hard at first!
  • I am on WW so I use that board everyday, but I have heard good things about MFP. Also, check out Emilybites.com if you like SkinnyTaste! Emilybites has lots of lightened up comfort food on her website!
  • We can start a weekly check in here if people want to do that too. If the other boards are dead, there is no reason not to really. I can start a poll if we want to check the interest.

  • The proboards new nest has a very active H&F board, fwiw.
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • Ditto!  Lots of yummy recipes on Skinnytaste!
