What's everyone up to this weekend? Bonus GTKY: I know it's not for a few weeks/months yet, but it's been in the 60s here this week and through the weekend, which has me jonesing for spring! Question is, do you do any type of spring cleaning, either home, financial or otherwise?

Re: Weekend plans/GTKY

  • Tonight: Pizza night and our new sofa/loveseat are being delivered!  We're going to set up our new family room furniture.  Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Tomorrow: H has trial training all day long, and I need to study for an exam on Sunday.  So I'll stay home and study while he's in training.  His firm is hosting a big dinner at one of my favorite restaurants tomorrow night, and spouses are invited.  That will be a good reward after a long day of studying.

Sunday: Taking my final exam for my tax-exempt class and then running errands.

Spring: Winter is pretty short here, so not much changes once spring rolls around.  We will be doing some yard work of course, and I am looking forward to taking walks to the grocery store again.  We do need to Konmari our office and go through lots of old papers, bills, etc. that I've never thrown away, so I guess that counts as "spring cleaning."
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Friday- Going to see Chippendales to celebrate my sister's 30th B-day- Whoop Whoop!

Saturday- Going to get a b-day gift for my sisters b-day party with family

    Sunday- Projects around the house

Spring cleaning- We cleaned our house thoroughly before we moved in August, so not sure if we'll wait until the fall to do a good cleaning again, but I'm sure I'll tackle the windows after all the pollen fly's but who knows what else right now.

  • Friday - we've put off dishes & general house pick-up all week, so although it's not fun, it's much needed and I will appreciate having a clean house for the weekend.

Saturday - brunch with book club in the morning, having some friends over in the evening.

Saturday and Sunday - shopping around for tile, counter top, light fixtures, paint colors, etc for our bathroom and kitchen reno. Our contractor wants us to decide this weekend so he can get things ordered before he goes on vacation. Unfortunately we don't have a design theme/idea for the bathroom so we're trying to pick one on the fly, and on a budget.

Spring cleaning - we'll continue the window cleaning we started in the fall, and I noticed the other day that the baseboards/nook & crannies in general need a good dusting. Also this winter we've been working on basement/closet organization, and since that's a multi-step work in progress we'll continue that. Oh, and the garage needs an organization overhaul, too. Financially, we're going to finish up switching banks & choosing life insurance.

Today:  Fridays are a half day for me.  So a little grocery shopping after work (Walmart).  Get Mexican food for lunch.  And binge on daytime court shows when I get home.

Saturday:  Have my p/t job in the morning, but that only takes 1 1/2 hours.  Then Costco run, if I don't do it today.  I picked up a Groupon yesterday for a take-out Greek place near my house I've been wanting to try.  We may do that for lunch.

Sunday:  More work around the house, cleaning and organizing.  @hoffse, I like that you have turned Konmari's name into a verb!

Spring cleaning:  I don't do anything different in the spring than I do the rest of the year, as far as cleaning/clearing out the house and my finances.  If anything, the beginning of the year is when I am the most likely to do a deep cleanse of my belongings/house.  I change my finances throughout the year as I have events that cause them to change.

But then, I also live in a warm weather climate.  So there isn't a drastic change in wardrobe.  I'll go from April-October not wearing any of my coats, but I just leave them in my closet.  Other than that, most of my clothes I wear all year long.  We have days in the wintertime that duck into the mid-high 30s, but then we also have days in the 70s.

  • Friday night - relax at home & probably straighten up

Saturday - a few errands & grocery shopping

Sunday - my birthday, but doing low key this year and just relaxing at home & the bowling league in the evening.

My husband is having surgery on Tuesday so I will be off for the next two weeks. So I actually plan to knock out some cleaning projects while I am home with him. Major goal is to finish re-organizing the basement & purging of items down there. It will be nice to have some room down there again. Depending on long that takes me, I may start on the spring clean up of our garage. So that way when it warms up enough all we have to do is hose down the floor to get the winter dirt out.

  • Tonight: taco night! H is coming home today after being in TX all week. Hopefully it's still nice enough to go for a walk when I get home. It's like Spring today in Chicagoland!

Tomorrow: I work until 1, then H and I are volunteering from 3-5. Maybe we'll go for a drink after that.

Sunday: I'm doing the Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics of Illinois. I hate the cold, but it's for a really good cause. I'm in for a weekend of the feel goods! I'm excited. H doesn't really dig the volunteer stuff, so I'm so happy that he has agreed to one of the events.

I love Spring cleaning! I love when things are clean and organized. It's an emotional thing for me, too. It just feels good; like a fresh start.

    Friday night-Laundry-$0

    Saturday morning-Eyebrow wax. $20

    Sunday-More laundry & purging. $0

We had a huge credit card bill this month because we took our dog to the cardiologist and the vet. Also, the new gutters and soffits were put on the credit card. Trying to keep it a very spend free weekend, and get the house picked up, since we were out of town last weekend. The cleaning lady comes on Tuesday, but I want to purge a little this weekend and get stuff donated or in the trash. H has to work all weekend, anyway and he's a bit of pack rat, so I get rid of things when he's not around. Trust me, he never misses it.

Bonus: We finally got all our paper work to the accountant to file our taxes!

Love it!  Even though I am the one who is a packrat in my relationship.  I'm pretty sure my H has never done that, but I know he has been tempted.
  • Nothing really set in stone.... I got paid today so I need to make a Costco run for dog treats and coffee and gatorade and a new bath mat.

I really do need to buckle down and put together the filing cabinet we've had for about 4 months... I had a panic moment last week when I needed a copy of our marriage license and I had NO IDEA where it was.  Turns out H put it in his locked storage chest, which is great I guess, but I need to have easier access to certain items, and we definitely need a central location to keep stuff.

So yeah other than that, we don't do any official "spring cleaning".  We host a Super Bowl party every year so the day before usually ends up being our "deep clean" day.

I'd also like to go through my closet again and do another closet purge, I try to do it every 3 months or so.
  • No set weekend plans; I want to continue tackling our spare room and cleaning/organizing that, and I'll probably also work on homework for both of my classes.  Probably going to talk H into working on the spare room with me, and if it's nice maybe go for a couple of walks or drives.

I love Spring almost as much as I love summer!  We have a long, cold winter, so I am SO ready for spring to get here.  I don't do specific spring cleaning, but I typically change out our bedding from the heavy, down stuff to the lighter blankets and bedspreads.  We also will be taking a lot more walks when it's not snowy and slushy and cold.

Our porch contractor has to come in the spring to seal the concrete and backfill/grade the front yard since they weren't able to do that before the ground froze for winter.  I'm looking forward to not having a giant pile of dirt in the front yard!

We also have a couple of projects that we want to prioritize this spring--we need to get basement stairs built, and we need to do something with the front yard to cut down on all the mud.  Our yard/driveway is a solid muddy mass right now from construction.  We want landscaping, but probably can't afford to do it this year, so we just need something to get us through another year or two until we can do real landscaping.

  • tonight, some cleaning, but mostly working on bedtime routine with baby (we were up until 2am this morning...I get up for work at 5).

Tomorrow, my parents are coming for the night

Sunday, grocery shopping and getting ready for the work week.

I try to get the inside of the house super clean in february/march, usually starting with cleaning up any disorganization in financial records while I get our taxes organized. Outside clean-up can't start until the snow is gone in April/May

  • Tonight - There are few fixtures on sale that I want for our master bathroom reno so I'm planning to skip over to HD and buy them. I may also do some price checking and dig through the clearance section and see if I can find anything else we want.

Tomorrow - My sister is dropping my niece off at 9:30 in the morning while they go to a wine tour with some friends. I'm so excited! She's nearly 5 months and she's started to push her legs under her and push herself up a bit so she's getting close the crawling stage. I'm so in love with her little personality plus morning and afternoon are her best times of the day mood wise so we're going to have a good time.

Sunday - H and I need to make a Costco run and do a quick clean up sweep of the house. We're hosting a friend for a week while he's in town for business so we need to stock up the fridge and make sure the house is "guest ready".

Spring cleaning - We have a massive yard so I definitely do literal spring clean up outside. We started a few things early like rose bush and tree pruning, but I'd say in the next month we'll get serious about treating the yard for weeds that the fall pre-emergent didn't kill, fresh mulch in the areas that need it, get the garden ready for planting, planting new annuals, stuff like that. We don't do much inside. Usually the beginning of the year has me focused on organizing, getting rid of junk, etc. so we're nearly done with that for now.
  • DD1 turns three tomorrow! We're going to Disneyland after I get done working today. We usually go earlier in the day, but we decided to go later this time to stay for the nighttime shows. It had been in the low 90's all week, but we got a bit of rain yesterday. I think the temp will be mild today, so I'm happy about that. Tomorrow we'll probably hang out around the house or go to the park, then we're going to FI's parents for dinner, cake, and opening presents. No plans for Sunday yet.
  • We don't have a ton of plans.  DD is going for a sleepover at my parents house tonight so DH and I will go out for dinner.  Taking down the outdoor xmas lights because its so nice this weekend.  Going to yoga on sunday.

I started cleaning in jan. after the holidays.  I've already finished deep cleaning the entire house and steam vac all carpets and rugs.  Now I need to get taxes done.  When spring really hits I will buy some flowers and plant them in pots for our patio.  I also want to pay to have some minor landscaping done in front of our house.

  • It will be a quiet weekend with the usual DVR catch-up, cleaning, gym, etc.

Tonight - staying in, cleaning guest room for new BnB guests that arrive tomorrow

Saturday - going to see the movie Spotlight and the independent one screen theater.  The theater is byob so we'll probably take a couple of beers with us.  Weather is supposed to be nice so it will be nice to get a walk in.

Sunday - H has his first mystery shop at a local chain that we love.  Looking forward to that free dinner!

We clean all year.  Spring is pretty yard work/garden prep ready.
  • It's going to be a crazy weekend.  DD's 1st birthday party is tomorrow.  So tonight I have a ton of stuff to get done and we have some family coming in from out of town to stay all weekend.  Then Saturday is birthday festivities and visitors at our house all day.  Sunday is church then probably organizing the Toys R Us throwup that will happen in our home.

I LOVE Spring!  The newness of it, it staying lighter out for longer, and the cleaning that happens.  I do a lot of deep cleaning in the spring and fall.  Wash blinds, walls, windows, floor finish on the hardwoods, shampoo carpets, scrub cabinets inside and out, etc.

  • Saturday: DH gets home from a trip Saturday afternoon. Until then, I'm just running errands, cleaning and meal planning, as well as wrapping gifts. Saturday morning DS and DD have ice skating lessons.

Sunday: Church and then my parents are coming over for DD's 4th birthday dinner and gift opening.

We finally committed this week to listing our house for sale. So, there's a lot of staging and clearing out to be done over the next few weeks. We're moving lots of things to my parents' basement and other things are being trashed.

I don't specifically do "spring" cleaning. I like to keep it pretty neat and tidy all the time on a rotating cleaning schedule. We do have outdoor spring work to do like yard clean up, and doggy duty pick-up, and planting flowers, but that's all for specifically spring stuff.

The first birthday is SO exhausting!  It was an all day thing for us and the toys r us throw up is real and never ends.  I constantly struggle with too many toys getting into our living room.  It wasn't so much of a problem when she was little but now that she is into shopkins, my little ponies, princesses, calico critters - it.never.ends!

  • Saturday: We were supposed to go to a birthday party today but it was cancelled due to illness.  We're going to work on cleaning, laundry and my big goal is cleaning out the garage.  Tonight DH and I are going to rent a movie.

Sunday: Church and that's it.  We have a pretty quiet weekend!

I would love to spring clean but I'm always struggling to get even our basic cleaning done so I'm not sure how much I can do.  On the bright side after the stomach bug last month all of our carpets were steam cleaned lol.
  • Tonight is our organization's annual gala, so I worked late last night and will be working today and into the late evening. In 2015, we did $1.1 million, and hope to raise even more this year! Tomorrow will just be relaxing and hopefully enjoying some time outside. I really need to clean out my car! I like to do a pretty good sweep of our unfinished basement. This year, I'd also like to have someone come do the attic. (I'm afraid of what I'd find up there!) I've taken a few days off during my mom's Spring Break so that she can come up to help paint a few rooms.

We got back from Disney World late Friday afternoon. It was so much fun! The girls had a blast and they were so cute- DH is already planning a trip for February 2018.  :)
We got everything unpacked and started laundry Friday evening. My parents came out and got us some dinner. They came back on Saturday to hang out. DH and I went grocery shopping.
Sunday we finished up laundry, hung out, uploaded our pictures, and ordered DH's parents a disney frame with a 5x7 of them with the girls. Nice little thank you gift for covering our park tickets.
Back to work today- need to get DD#1 moving in a bit for the bus and I need to get ready for work.

Spring break is only about a month away- DH will have over a week off so he'll clean the garage out, clean up the basement more, and go through clothing. We tend to do a deep clean 2x a month at the house so that won't be anything out of the ordinary. I would also like to start repainting the trim in the 2 back bedrooms downstairs- it's a dull off white now and a nice bright white will look great since the trim is so large (old house build in the 1920's = massive baseboards, door and window casings).

Sure- we needed airfare for 4 from NY (also did nonstop since it was the girls' first plane trip) so that skews the total a bit. We also stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge which is at the higher price for a hotel, but it was something I really wanted. The best part was that we went from a pool view to a savannah view for no extra cost because we wanted attached rooms with DH's parents so the girls could go back and forth without having to go in the hallway. We didn't get park hopper passes- just one park per day because the girls are young and we knew that the Magic Kingdom would be plenty for them each day (and it was!). We flew on Monday, went to the park for 3 days, and flew home Friday. Total for airfare, hotel, and park was about $4,700 and that doesn't include food. We actually packed quite a bit of food in our luggage- pb&j, bread, cereal, snacks for the girls each day. We picked up fruits, veggies, milk, and water for them once we got to the hotel but bringing what we did helped save some $ for breakfast and lunch. By dinner, they were so tired, we just got them food from the cafe style place at the hotel and they ate in the room (we did not get the meal plan).. they really loved that part! DH's parents came too so DH and I went out 1 night to Disney Springs and had dinner.. we were so tired, we were back by 9 to get some sleep for our last day at the park. DH's parents also covered our 4 park passes ($1,131.04).. they're Disney fanatics so they were so excited that we asked if they wanted to join us. Our total OOP was about $4,000 for the 4 of us for 5 days. We have a separate vacation account so it was pretty painless to pay for it and totally worth it.. the girls had so much fun! And it was nice to get some sun for a few days and watch giraffes, zebras, and lots of other animals from our balcony.
