PSA - Ebates

They are celebrating Leap Day by doing double cash back at 500 stores!  Plenty of popular stores are on the list - it's not just the really random ones.

  • I seriously love Ebates! I got a check this month!! :)

  • I did too!

I have found that their cash back for hotels.com is awesome.  It's like 3%-6% all the time.  And then Hotels.com does a stay 10 nights, get 1 night free thing, and you are allowed to double dip.

I just booked hotels for my parents and us for our Italy trip over the weekend.  My parents are letting me book theirs to get the points.  So we're getting 2x points with our Chase card on 16 nights, enough credit through Hotels.com to get 2 free nights once our trip is over (because we have a few nights banked already), and then 3% back on the whole purchase at Ebates.  It's going to be awesome.

  • If you don't already, also check out Mrrebates.com. It's the same idea as Ebates, but often their percentage back is higher.

I've used them and befrugal.com before, but I've always had trouble getting purchases to credit properly for both.  Do they work well for you?  I've especially had a hard time with hotels.com on both of those in the past, whereas ebates credits it right after the stay is over.

  • Omg I wish I didn't know this because I'm now shopping on Lowes.com for the 3% cash back.

    Sorry!

I had a feeling they would do something like that, so I intentionally held back buying a couple of wedding and baby gifts until those stores got double cash back.

I've never once had a problem. H booked a fall business trip and we got 12% back, though we haven't seen it as high since. Mr. Rebates is a little different in that you get your cash back 90 days after purchase versus Ebates quarterly cycle (so sometimes it takes longer), but otherwise I like them equally.

Sigh!  I just bought an oven at HD through Ebates last week.  But the oven was 20% off and the sale ended on the 25th.  As it was, the oven was already backordered, so I'm glad I could grab it while I did.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.  I finally started using an incognito window pay for everything, and that seems to track the purchases better. I don't think I've tried them since doing that.

Side note - I realized that after we take our trip to Italy we will have so many points in various accounts that I'm strongly considering booking a winter trip based primarily on where we can burn them.  I've never really followed that model before, but I might see what that's like next time.

I escaped temptation. None of the bathroom tile I'm interested in is beating the price at Home Depot, even with the cash rebate, same with the wood flooring type I want and I already purchased my bathroom fixtures last week. I didn't even realize HD had a relationship with ebates? I have the little browser button and it never notifies me when I'm on their site.

ETA: Whelp there went that. HD has 2% cash back and I definitely just ordered a new vanity light and a semi-flush mount light for over the tub. At least the charge won't hit til March so it'll go in our March budget. Both were "Special Savings" though so I did good right???

Yep, HD is on Ebates and normally 1%.  Sorry to tempt you, haha.

I think Special Savings are usually good deals!  The gas oven I just bought was a "Special Savings" also.  It was normally $550 and on sale for $450, plus free delivery.  And, although a lower end model, a nice looking one.

I can't even get a shady looking used one for $200...plus then its another $50-$75 for delivery by a third party person.
