Tailbone Injury

My boyfriend was snowboarding and feel on his butt, he says the pain is bad. It doesn't hurt while he walk, but is sore when he sits. What should he do?

Re: Tailbone Injury

  • There isn't much they can do with a bruised or broken tailbone.  If it doesn't get better I would consider going to an urgent care location.

It probably isn't worth the time or money to go to the ER.

  • You just joined to post this on the MM board??  Ok.  Well, if he says the pain is bad, he should probably visit a walk in urgent care.
  • I had the same exact thing happen to me ( I quit snowboarding after that lol, plus I wasn't very good). I went to the doc to get it checked and they told me to take ibuprofen but it didn't really help. I had always had lower back pain too so I ended up going to a chiropractor and overall it helped both my tailbone and lower back.
  • If it doesn't get better in a few weeks, then I would also seek out a chiropractor. It's possible that in the accident he nudged parts of his spinal alignment out of place and would need some adjustments to get back to normal.

Speaking from personal experience, don't do too long of a "wait and see" approach to back injuries. They are compounding and if your body trains itself to manage pain and misalignment, it makes it harder to ever heal correctly AND it becomes ever more painful.

In another post in another discussion I mentioned chiropractors that do the Gonstead Technique. They begin before treating people with x-rays and other diagnostic testing. I wouldn't just go into any old chiropractor and let him/her adjust me. You should look for someone that will focus on overall correction, not just repeated adjustments.
