Poncho and/or rain proof jacket recommendations

I am going to a concert festival next month where I will get rained on. As a result I want to upgrade to a better rain poncho. Any recommendations?

Also looking for recommendations on a jacket with hood I can wear during spring/fall on rainy days. When I was in Seattle I borrowed a black jacket from my friend's husband and it was awesome protection for walking around in their "spitting rain" weather. I don't remember the brand though.
Depending on the jacket I'm thinking I may or may not need to get the poncho--but probably because this festival will get muddy and I will want something that can literally be cleaned by hosing it down if necessary.

I don't have a good one myself, but I will sometimes use one of H's Carhartt coats and they repel water very well... and depending on the one you get, are very warm as well. They aren't very cheap though.

I've had a Columbia 3-in-1 for years in all sorts of weather situations and I love it. We bought H a Columbia rain jacket last year and it's light-weight enough to wear when warm (although you will sweat in it) and thin enough to roll into a ball for carrying around (we bought it for a trip to Europe) and it also repelled water well.

A couple years ago H and I had to shovel our dirt pile turned mud pile in the driveway to move it to the garden because my dad needed the bricks that were keeping the tarp down for their Christmas lights. We shoveled that mud in the pouring rain because it was the last opportunity we had before dad needed the bricks. True story. My Columbia got so muddy, and after a run through the washer it looked like new.

Second the rec for Columbia! I got my sister one of their rain jackets for Christmas over 5 years ago and it's a great jacket for a breezy day, rain, whatever! They tend to run a little small though....at least for me in the hips anyway. I have both a rain jacket and a dual layer ski jacket and I love them both! Price wise they aren't TOO expensive but the quality makes it worth it for me.

i don't know what your budget is, but I walk 4 miles everyday back & fourth to work in Boston -- so waterproof coats are important to me. I swear by NorthFace. I think their stuff holds up really well & they've got casual + more polished styles. I'm eyeing this one, it got great reviews & its $100. I have a similar one from 3 years ago that I wear all spring & fall -- even a few chilly summer days.

PS: i guess this isn't ideal for your festival -- but for everyday wear, it'd be perfect.

I have the Columbia rain jacket like this one. Love it! The hood also rolls up and zips into the neckline to put away if you don't want it out (at least on mine it does). It's a good price point too, at $50.

If you will use it, you may be able to catch a 3 in 1 Columbia jacket on clearance from the winter. You can just zip out the inner layer so it isn't as warm. That's the one I use 75% of the time in the rain.

Thanks for the recommendations so far and keep them coming! I'll have to check some of these out. I probably want something that goes past the waist/is longer, especially since I am fairly tall. When I try them on I'll have to see how they fit in length and arms. Men's versions may come in to play depending on women's fit.

I'm Ok with spending a little more since I can probably keep it for a long time and use it as a jacket on non-raining days (depending on what kind I get). Some of these options may be able to eliminate the poncho need too.

For a good poncho, get one from Coleman (camping equipment company). I got mine at Walgreens for a fair price. They also offer jackets & pants in case you would be more comfortable that way.

For jacket, I love my LLBean stow away jacket with gortex. My parents did recently have to replace theirs because it's not as water proof as it use to be, but they were 20 years old. So any jacket that holds up that long, is pretty darn good in my book. They aren't cheap, but look how long they last.

Update: I bought rain boots from Aldi and they worth worth every penny. We didn't end up getting rained on but rain came during our off hours and made the festival field super muddy. No worries with boots though!

REI is super convenient for me to look around at. I tried on jackets there and they were all too light weight. I think the kind of rain jacket I want will be better to buy during fall. I ended up buying a $5 poncho from REI and not needing to use it but still good to have around for only $5.

I'll be using your recommendations this fall when I look at jackets so that I can have one in my wardrobe.
