Last year was rough after getting laid off and being out of work for almost 6 months. Today I had my annual review (which of course only covered the 6 months I had worked) and I got a GLOWING review in all areas. My boss is so happy I'm part of the team and appreciates the work I've been doing. She was most impressed with the stuff that I didn't think much about. lol She loves that I'm looking for better ways to do things (prompted because I'm lazy and don't want to do more than I have to) and how collaborative I am.
The best news of all is that I'm getting a 3% merit increase! This was the max increase allowed this year and I wasn't even sure I would be eligible considering I hadn't been there a full year, let alone get one that high! Even though my paycheck isn't likely to change much the vote of confidence from my boss was just as valuable to me.
The raise takes effect on my next paycheck AND will be retroactive to January 1st. So one one hand YEAH but next week's check is going to be really weird because they will tax it like I make that much every paycheck. With all the technology out there I wish there was a way for payroll systems to account for unusual payroll cycles or bonuses without having it taxed to death.
Re: Today was a good day!
Congrats! That is wonderful news. Especially after all the turmoil you had last year.
Although that's amazing they are setting your increased pay retroactive to Jan. 1st (super wow), yes x10 on why can't payroll systems account for unusual pay things like this. I always get nailed on this kind of stuff when I get laid off and get my final paycheck...with severance...with unpaid vacation...all lumped into one big check. The last thing I need when I have no idea when my next paycheck is coming, is for Uncle Sam to treat my last paycheck like I'm some high rolling, 6-figure earner.
