PSA-Insane Airfare Deal

It is hurting my brain not to purchase this right now. Hope someone out there can take advantage! LAX to NZ for around $225 on Qantas. It's pretty once-in-a-lifetime. http://thepointsguy.com/2016/04/amazing-deal-la-and-sf-to-auckland-nz-for-225-roundtrip/

Re: PSA-Insane Airfare Deal

  • Gah that's crazy.  Wish we could take advantage too!

After our Italy trip I think we're going to start traveling primarily based on sweet deals on airfare.

  • OK I seriously started looking at it, and unfortunately it's for dates through September.  You have to show a 7-day airfare deal for those prices to appear, but they showed up for me.

    This is painful.

I got it to load for a week and a half in November (over Thanksgiving). Glad you're around to empathize @hoffse! Where are you going in Italy?

We are going with my parents the last week in June.  They have never been to Europe before, so we're taking them around.  Very excited about it!  If it were just us though, I would cancel the trip and book that one instead because it would be significantly cheaper.

H and I just took 4 days for the California trip.  Granted, a couple days were work related for me, but H had to take vacation days.  I also have to go to DC for a week in September - again, work-related, but I will have a hard time billing while I am gone.  That pretty much taps out our 2016 vacation time.

How did you get it to load for Thanksgiving?  If the dates for NZ extended into Thanksgiving and Dec. we would totally do it because both of our firms reset the calendar on Dec. 1 each year.

  • OK I found a way to show it and then it was gone!  Boo.

  • I couldn't find the $250 deal but I found a $800 round trip from LAX to Auckland in July on Air New Zealand on the Google matrix. So tempting! We honeymooned in NZ and Australia and LOVED it.

  • I waited like 10 minutes too long to buy.  Lesson learned!

If we had more flexible schedules I wouldn't have hesitated.  Oh well - these kinds of deals are rare, but they do pop up now and then, and eventually we'll be able to take advantage of them.

I remember as a teen having a year where we went to San Fran like four times to see our family there.  I recently asked my dad why that happened and he was like, "I got an oops fare for about $75/person roundtrip from Atlanta.  I bought tickets for every holiday for the next year."

    Someday...

Try doing it from another computer.  I looked up airfare once for our trip to CA.  It disappeared.  Used my dad's computer and it came back up and I booked it.

Yes! Or clear your cookies and use private browsing. NZ is so amazing. I remain very tempted. We'd only barely have enough vacation time for a week and a half by November, though, and we'd still need to get ourselves to LA.
  • I was going to jump on it! At the top of the article posted, it says the deal was pulled at 8 AM Eastern. I'm guessing it was a mistake.

It must have been!  That wouldn't even cover a fraction of the fuel.  Sorry you missed it.  The Points Guy is a good blog to follow to get these types of deals (plus a lot of ads for credit cards, but I just ignore that part).
