reintro: I'm back!

Hi everyone! this is Gdaisy09 (I've been locked out of that account and can't get back in).

Things are busy here, LO turns 6 months old next week! I'm adjusting to being back at work. It's been a really hard transition, I was officially diagnosed with post-partum depression a couple months ago, but things finally seem to be turning up, I still take things one day at a time, and I'm learning to ask or find (and in some cases pay) for help when I need it. I'm ready to jump back in as our new family life and family budget settle out.

Glad you are back and getting the help you need!  Be proud of yourself for asking for help.  Too many people do not, and it's harder on everybody.

  • Good to see you back!

I'm sorry to hear about your PPD, but thank goodness you are getting treatment.  It's just not fair sometimes!

  • Good to have you back!  My DD is 5 and I remember needing to ask help from DH when I needed it because I was getting so exhausted when DD was a baby.  Once we figured out a good routine things got a lot better.  Also,  I got depression and anxiety when I was pregnant so they put me on zoloft.  Within 2 weeks I felt more normal.  Sorry about the PPD - I know what its like at least to have it during pregnancy.

yup, that's exactly what they put me on, I've been taking it for about 2 and a half weeks, things aren't 100% better, but they are better than they were. breastfeeding is exhausting, i have to keep reminding H that while i'm not pregnant I'm still feeding and hydrating 2 people.

I'm sure BFing is exhausting.  I was so burnt out during pregnancy I decided not to BF - honestly didn't think I could handle anymore things done to my body.

I struggled with nursing my first because of latch issues. I became a full time pumper which was very exhausting at times (basically double the work with pumping several times a day plus bottle feeding). I had low supply and was pretty hard on myself. My second was a stubborn nurser too but I already knew what to expect with full time pumping and my supply was much better! The first year is the toughest. After that I slept much better and got more sleep! They become more independent.

You're doing a great job! Just keep in mind that you're about half way done- that's such a big accomplishment. I made it about 9 months with both girls and had some frozen, but we did have to supplement with formula at the end. Working and BFing is a lot of dedication- you're amazing for giving your baby this great benefit. :)

  • Thanks everyone! Breastfeeding is actually going well, I think we got really lucky and didn't have any latch or supply issues. I guess I was never expecting how hard it would be even if it went well. I'm planning to BF as long as possible, at least until LO is a year, if it's still going well in november, I'm going to try to get through next year's flu season.

For all those TTC, if you're planning to BF I definitely recommend finding a support group and a lactation consultant. from a MM stand point BF is definitely less expensive than formula, but not entierly "free" like I think I had in my mind before I was actually in it.

You're really lucky to have a great experience- I had mastitis with DD#1, had to use a shield, and my supply tanked at 9 months with both of them.. they liked their bottles more and were very interested in foods at that age. Although BFing isn't entirely free (especially if you have to go back to work), I found it to be way easier than formula.. DH had a celebration when we got rid of all of the bottles and my pump. So much less to clean!

I've had recurrent clogged ducts, but supplementing with lechitin has *knocks-on-wood* helped me avoid mastitis.  we're traveling this weekend for a work conference for me and pumping is going to be enough of a headache at the conference, but I'm glad I don't have to figure out transporting formula or getting BM through TSA (granted it seems like thats only a little bit of a PITA).
