The upstairs A/C unit stopped working last night. Had the repair people come out today and there's definitely a leak. Having them estimate a new unit.

Done this before in another house, so I know it won't be cheap.....
Re: I'm going to cry now. :(
At the last house, it was $6400. They told my neighbour about $4800 for hers (we have a slightly bigger house), but that was the service techs and not the estimator
It is what it is and we have the cash on hand. Would rather use it for other things, but this is what emergency funds are for.
Wait, wait, wait, wait!!! I actually just had this happen to one of the units at my rental duplex.
It was a pretty old unit, but I had it reconditioned when I was doing all of the other rehabbing for $1,000. Than, as soon as my new tenants moved in, the A/C stopped working because of a leak. Talk about a huge let down! Of course, A/C guy who did the reconditioning couldn't be found. New A/C guy suggested he could run some type of goop through the lines and that should plug up any leaks.
It was a $200 service and it's not guaranteed nor could he even promise it would work at all. But fortunately it did. That was about two months ago. I'm sure I'll have to get new equipment at some point within the next few years, but if that $200 even bought me an extra year it was well worth it.
I'll talk to my H tonight and get more specific details on what was done and re-post.
