PSA: Ticketmaster Settlement

I don't see many others regularly mention concerts around here, but if you have ever purchased anything through Ticketmaster, log into your account, click on "My Account," and look for "My Vouchers."  Due to a recent class action settlement, many people are getting vouchers for free general admission tickets to certain concerts at Live Nation-owned venues.  Not every concert is eligible, but the list of those that are is surprisingly good!  It's heavy on big-name country acts and classic rock.  I just redeemed one to see Heart with Joan Jett and Cheap Trick, and another to see Modest Mouse, who H loves.  Not something I'd normally pay for but should be fun!

A few of my friends have a voucher or two even though they swear the last time they bought concert tickets was to see the Backstreet Boys or N Sync in high school.  We go to a lot of concerts, so I have 17.  They expire in 2018.

Re: PSA: Ticketmaster Settlement

  • Wow!  Huge win for you.

Is it anything other than concerts?  Any shows like Disney on Ice or something?

So far just concerts you can redeem for, but maybe purchasing something like that would qualify you for vouchers.
  • I don't think I have bought anything since college.  I don't even know that I would have an account.
  • The free ticket discount codes are for Live Nation Venues and the $2.25 discount codes are good for any Ticketmaster purchase, regardless of venue or event (at least that's what I've found out). If you purchased tickets from Ticketmaster anytime between 1999 and 2013 (I believe), you should get discount codes or sets of free tickets. The free tickets are only good for general admission and Ticketmaster has said that they are first come, first serve and anticipate that they will be used up quickly.

I have about 10 sets of free tickets, and almost $40 worth of the $2.25 discount codes. I actually just used a set of my free tickets to get tickets to see Zac Brown Band at a Live Nation venue. The $2.25 discount codes I used to purchase tickets to see Chris Stapleton at a non-Live Nation venue and it worked.

Sadly, so far it doesn't seem to be all Live Nation venues, at least not yet.  I was hoping to see some shows at House of Blues in Boston on the list.  Still, I really can't complain.  The list is so much better than I anticipated.  I'm not a huge country fan but have heard Zac Brown Band is awesome, good job snagging those!
  • @Xstatic3333 I was hoping one of the new Live Nation venues near me was going to be included but as you pointed out, not all of them are and this one is one of those that was excluded. I thought I read somewhere that the House of Blues was going to be included, so hopefully they will put some shows on there at a later day.

I just saw Zac Brown Band on Sunday, they were AWESOME.  That's super sweet you can get free tickets to see them.  Chris Stapleton too, his show here was with Live Nation but sold out in like a minute so I didn't even get a chance haha!

I have some vouchers, but I haven't researched what to use them on yet, I will have to log in to see what's available in my area.

Does anyone know where you can find the voucher rules? We have several events on the list near me and I keep trying to purchase the cheapest available general admission tickets and none of my voucher codes seem to be "eligible". So I'm trying to understand the rules as to what is and is not eligible since the concert was on the list.

ETA: Well...all of my local events just POOFED from the list so I guess that means the free ticket vouchers available were already claimed. Guess I just have to wait until they come up with more concerts.
  • @julieanne912 I'm so excited to see Zac Brown Band! They have been on my must-see list for years and when I saw today that I could get free tickets, I jumped on it. The venue they're playing at isn't one that my H and I normally like to go to, since it's a little far from our house and it can get nuts trying to get out at the end of the night, but free tickets trumps dealing with a little bit of hassle.

If you were in NY, I'd say come see Chris Stapleton here! The venue in my town that he's playing at still has tons of tickets left.
  • Wow.  When I saw it, I figured I'd only get one of the $2 discount codes which is basically worthless to me, but I logged in now just to see what was there and it looks like I do actually have a code for 2 free tickets.

Guess I need to see if there's anything I can use them on.

  • I supposedly have free tickets and I followed all of the instructions to redeem them and then it tries to charge my credit card......... rawr

Most likely they've been claimed. I have been stalking Ticketmaster since I got the email about the class action lawsuit months ago. I saw yesterday that I had a bunch of discount codes and free tickets so I hopped on first thing this morning to snag tickets, since I figured they'd go fast. Since they don't expire for two years, I'm hoping they release more shows next year so I can go to a couple more shows for free.

I'm torn between rationing mine out and just going for it with anything that seems interesting.  This probably won't be the most common opinion, but I'm really tempted by Duran Duran, another option near me.  I mean, using 17 in 2 years means going to a whole lot of shows, right?  It'll be tough to use them all.  The venue is also only 25 minutes from home and has free parking, so that's a big plus.

I'd go see Duran Duran! Between H and I, we have more sets of free tickets that we'll use. It'll be a little harder for us because the Live Nation venues near us are all an hour+ away and not too many options for shows on the weekends that look even a little interesting to us. I wouldn't mind a week day but most likely we'd have to take the next day off, or take a half day on the day of show and we don't have much vacation time left this year. Next year though, we could make a lot more shows work if we can see them for free.
  • Thank you!
I'm going to bet I have at least one in there. I received a couple e-mails about it a few months ago and didn't follow up with them because I wasn't sure if it was spam.

I've bought a ton of tickets between those time frames. I tried logging in and looking today, and it says their system is overloaded and I need to try back again later.

Is it possible to sell some of your vouchers on Ebay and/or Craig's List?  If not, maybe make a deal with friends/family to all go to the same event.  You provide the tickets and they hook you up with dinner and/or drinks.

Now I have to tell a random, funny story from my younger life.  I was just a few years out of college and had a friend who had been a Chemistry major.  I'd been a Business Major.  He used to occasionally tell business major jokes...where the punch line generally had something to do with business majors not being very smart and/or that this was an easy major.  It was all in fun and not at all mean.

We were hanging out one afternoon and he had told one of these jokes.  A couple hours later he was talking about that he and a friend had each stolen a Mardi Gras city parking sign after the season was over.  I was a bit horrified and told him they probably use them every year, but he clarified they were dated and he suspects they would have just been thrown away.  Here's the rest of the conversation:

Me:  "In that case, you should have taken all of them and sold them on Ebay."

Friend (looking surprised):  "That's a great idea!!  Why didn't I think of that?"

Me:  "Because you weren't a Business Major."

    Aaaahhh...it was the perfect come-uppance.

I hope so too! Atlanta had a ton of options available...including Barenaked Ladies this weekend and I felt pretty excited! I signed up for emails to tell me when more shows are being added so hopefully I get something soon...otherwise I guess I'll have to offer codes to some friends.
  • I just logged in, I've got 4 sets of free general admission tickets, and 4 $2.25 discounts.
  • Well that sucks... NONE of the eligible shows are in Colorado currently.  Hopefully they add some.

I wouldn't give up yet. I think there are X available for each individual show. Go through the process for BNL and see if it works! That's a good one.

@Xstatic3333 It would have been good!! But Barenaked Ladies was one of the available shows that disappeared on me after I had attempted to go through the process of redeeming one of my vouchers. Nothing for Atlanta is showing up at all anymore. :(

So at the same festival I was at this weekend where I saw Zac Brown Band on Sunday, Blake Shelton was on Saturday.  It was his birthday, so Gwen was there.  She came out and did a song with him, and then a song of her own.  Super fun!
  • Finally got it to work.  I have 1 set of ticket vouchers, H has 5.  Nice.
