  • 1. $20 Walmart, $50 Home Depot, $23 Gas

    2. We paid off our driveway. Trying to get the credit cards paid off with all the emergency vet visits and bikes on them.

    3. H and I  went to LA, California in June 2011 to stay with my aunt and uncle to visit. We had planned on driving to Laguna Beach to spend the day. We walked around and shopped and had some lunch. Then H told me he had found this neat cliff trail running along the ocean...I was really surprised he had even been looking into something extra to do. Along the walk there were stairways down to the ocean so we went down one and I sat on a rock while H was pacing around. He finally came up to me and got down on his knee and asked me to marry him! It was a beautiful place for the perfect engagement.

We got married in May 2012 with 56 of our closet friends and family at a beautiful golf course in the town next to my parents (my dad had found it and we fell in love). I loved everything about our wedding and have no regrets. We go back to the golf course 1-2 times per year to eat lunch and take a picture for my wedding scrapbook.

    1.  How MM was your week?

I made a lot of extra money mystery shopping this weekend.  Woo hoo!  Since it is near the end of the month, schedulers start getting generous with bonuses.  I made $108 in fees, plus reimbursement for $45 in food.  Including writing the reports, I only spent about 4-5 hours of time.

    2.  Any progress towards goals?

None this week, though I am debating throwing a few hundred from my checking account onto my HELOC balance.

    3.  GTKY: Summer is wedding season. If you're married, tell us about your engagement or wedding. (Bonus points for pics!) If you're not married, tell us about your dream engagement or wedding.

My H and I had been together for 12 years when he finally proposed!  At one point, I had even considered breaking up with him because he was so marriage-shy, but decided I would rather be with him and never married than not with him at all.

But on to the happier part of the story.  Not the "official" proposal, but he shocked the heck out of me when we were having brunch one morning.  He had just gotten a large sum of money from selling stock and said he wanted to use some of it to buy an engagement ring.  I swear, I almost blurted out, "For me?"  Lol.  But fortunately I didn't, it was just so surprising.

Long story short, I told my mom the story and she offered us her wedding rings from my father (he is deceased) if we wanted them.  I always liked her rings, H was good with that, so we went with that option.  Except she lives across the country from us and we wouldn't see her until the wedding.  So, on my birthday in November 2012, my H proposed to me on bended knee in our living room with a "placeholder" engagement ring.  I still adore that ring and sometimes wear it on my right hand.

We were going to stay in NOLA and get married in our backyard.  But my mom offered to host our ceremony/reception at her and my stepfather's house in CA.  We went with that option because 95% of our guest list either already lived in CA or would have had to travel either way.

It was the stereotypical beautiful, sunny, perfect Southern CA day in June.  We kept it to only our closest friends and family, about 35 guests.  I loved having a small wedding!  Less stress, less money, and I felt like I was able to spend more time with each guest.  Plus I got to spend the whole weekend with family members, including my mom!, who I rarely get to see.  Everything about it was wonderful and so happy.

  • 1.  I went a little over on groceries, and H spent $20 on beer, but not too bad otherwise.  We finally had a boring weekend at home, hooray!

    2.  We'll put some money in savings on payday tomorrow.  Also cash flowing medical bills.

    3.  H and I are pretty low-key, so he just got down on one knee and proposed on our 4th anniversary, no muss no fuss.  We got married in August a little over a year later.  We had the ceremony and reception at an outdoorsy wedding venue in western MA, and it was absolutely beautiful.  We were very lucky that the weather was not too hot for August.  It was all perfect.  My bridesmaids wore different shades of blue dresses and we carried hydrangeas and sunflowers.  Yes, I'm that girl who cares about the flowers.  I can't help it!  We had an amazing band that H knew from high school and that really made the day.  It was well worth the extra money to me.
  • 1. We didn't spend much this weekend. I worked my second job and was sick on Sunday. $155 at Ikea which I changed my mind on. Most of it will be returned this week. Then $40 for parking at the baseball game, which was a waste since I vomited at the stadium and left middle of the 2nd inning.

    2. No progress this week. We are still waiting to see what a real paycheck will look like at my new job with all of my deductions and dependent FSA.

    3. H proposed to me at the beach where we took our first vacation together, on our 1 year anniversary. I know he was going to propose and had picked out the ring 2 months before. We got married 15 months later at the largest cathedral in the city with less than 100 people. Our cake almost fell over so we had to stop eating dinner to go cut it. Then we danced like we were in high school to Frank Sinatra-The way you look tonight. We are coming up on our 3 year wedding anniversary next month!

  • 1.  How MM was your week?  A bit spendier than I would have hoped for - I've been feeling kind of crappy and so we got really lazy about cooking and ended up getting more takeout than we normally do. I just kept craving beef and the thought of anything else made me nauseous. We also had a few medical/dental bills to pay (including the whopping $11 prescription DH needed lol. they told him insurance wasn't covering it before telling him it was only $11 he fought with them. oye).

    2.  Any progress towards goals? We kicked some more cash into our investments to take advantage of the Brexit stock sale lol.

    3.  GTKY: Summer is wedding season. If you're married, tell us about your engagement or wedding. (Bonus points for pics!) If you're not married, tell us about your dream engagement or wedding. DH proposed on the front porch of our house right after we closed - it was WAY too much excitement for one day. We were alone, it was sweet and sincere, and he got down on one knee. It was perfect. Our wedding was in October in Boston and we lucked out with perfect weather and foliage. We're an interfaith marriage so we found a church that let us put up a chuppah and had DH's comedian cousin perform the ceremony. Our reception was at the Waterworks Museum and we had a cocktail party with a 9 piece brass band - it was so much fun! Our families keep asking us to throw another reception, but since the venue has since doubled their rental fee I think we're just going to have to enjoy the memories lol.
  • Oh!  Y'all :(.  All this talk about weddings made me realize my H and I (both) totally forgot our anniversary this year!  It was 5 days ago on June 22nd.  To be fair, we've both had a lot going on.

My goodness, it's only been 3 years and we are already forgetting, lol.

    That's hilarious!  We've been married 6 years.

I'm loving all these wedding and engagement stories! So sweet!!

    Thanks!  And me, too.

I almost don't want to call anyone out, because they are all great stories, but I think the piñata with your engagement ring in it (@vlagrl35) is pretty awesome and creative!

@labro, I haven't been on TK in awhile so I don't know if it is still up, but I remember you had a cute sig pic with your bridesmaids, where you are sticking your tongue out at them.  It always made me laugh.

Haha thank you! I'm pretty sure it's still the same. Those other two women in the photo are my younger sisters. The middle sister and I are "crushing" the youngest one in between us. I feel really grateful that I have such a close relationship with them that we can still behave ridiculously together even now.

That's what I like about the pic and why I remember it.  All three of you in it just glow with fun and joy.
  • 1.  How MM was your week?
Okay.  We went to Buffalo Wild Wings Friday night for a date night and spent more than I normally would have liked to.  We each had a beer and that was because of the bad news we had gotten a few hours prior.  It was nice to go out just the 2 of us though.

We also went to a campground to visit some of H's family that was camping there for the weekend.  It cost $9 per person to get in.  Insane! Definitely wasn't in the plan, but we had extra money in our entertainment budget.

Other than that, it was just all the usual planned stuff. A bit over budget on eating out, but only by $3.

    2.  Any progress towards goals?
Cash flowed a few things, did some extra giving to the fire department during the fundraiser, and put aside more money for our family vacation next month.

    3.  GTKY: Summer is wedding season. If you're married, tell us about your engagement or wedding. (Bonus points for pics!) If you're not married, tell us about your dream engagement or wedding.

Hah. Engagement, we were together for 7 years and living together for 3. I really didn't think it was ever going to happen. He proposed a few days before we left on vacation. Did it in our backyard in front of all our friends. He said he did it then because we were sharing a luggage for vacation and he knew I would snoop to see if there was a ring hidden. He was right. :-)

Our wedding was so much fun. It was in the church I grew up in, then the reception was in a hall attached to a casino.  Open bars aren't the norm for our area, but we ended up adding it at the last minute, as well as 3 kegs. Oh my goodness did it make for some fun. We had 350 guests, but our close friends and family of about 60-75 people were who stayed for the entire thing and we all had a blast.

  • 1. Good! A new Sprouts opened up in my neighborhood and they had some really great grand opening specials, so I did a light stock up running me about $100. Otherwise, $10 on Chinese takeout on Friday and $17 for wine/beer on Saturday.

    2. Also good! H's mom bought a new car so she gave him her old one - a 2011 Camry, so a big upgrade from his 2001 Corolla! The time it took to list his Corolla on Craig's List to signing the title over to the new owner was less than 2 hours. I deposited that $1,800 this morning and put half on his student loan and the rest toward some recent and upcoming travel expenses.

    3.  Our wedding was awesome.  Married in a Methodist church located in an old bar and had our reception at Boulevard Brewery.  It was pretty non traditional.  I walked down the aisle to a guitarist playing the Beatles' Across the Universe.  And we skipped things like first dances, toasts, tosses, cake cutting, etc.  H chose our wedding date - as it's the date equidistant between our birthdays.

Friday we did a pizza picnic downtown by the river (boat race weekend) - $20, gas for my car - $24. Saturday I ran errands and got groceries - $100. Sunday Target run $150 (lots of stocking up).
    2. Any progress towards goals?
The usual to savings. Yard goals - we need to buy more stone for our landscaping. When we bought our house 9 years ago, we thought it was great that they had stone instead of mulch. Stone holds up really well and we've had very little cost until now. We really need to freshen it up and add an inch or two. We'll probably work on that this weekend.

H knows my favorite time of year and holiday is Christmas. He proposed a week before Christmas in 2005. We were married in spring of 2007. Longer engagement than planned but when you have a sibling and four cousins all getting married within a 12 month time frame, your options start to lessen! Lol
