Inexpensive margarita glasses

Hi everybody,

We are hosting a party at our house next week for the junior board of a large nonprofit in town.  We are expecting 15-20 people, and we are just going to have it catered by a local Mexican restaurant that does a "taco bar" package that's a very good price (and tasty, I've had it before).  They do it in a way that's vegetarian friendly too, in case we have guests with dietary restrictions.

The event planner at my office is generously letting us use my firm's chafing dishes, serving utensils, etc., so we have most of that covered.  H and I are planning on serving water, soft drinks, beer (standard beers + Mexican themed beers), and margaritas.  We have all the beer and liquor we need left over from firm-sponsored summer associate events.  We do not, however, have margarita glasses.  My firm doesn't have any I can borrow.

This is a casual event, but there will be people we don't know very well coming so I want it to look like we tried.  If I'm going to do something other than solo cups, I'd like to buy a dozen.  I'm on the fence between glass or plastic.  I usually prefer glass because it's nicer, but we will probably be outside on our patio.

Any suggestions?  TIA!

  • If it's an outside event I don't think anyone will bat an eye at plastic! If you live near a Christmas Tree Shop they always have tons of fun colored plastic margarita glasses for about $1 apiece. If you mix and match them it makes it seem like the plastic was a festive choice rather than a budget/breakage concern.

That's a really great idea, thank you!  $1/glass is about what I would like to spend!  I just started looking at online options, and they seem to be running $4-$5 per glass.  Practically, I could see us keeping maybe 4 in the kitchen cabinets for us to use and then we will probably end up storing the rest for parties/guests.  That's why I don't want to spend very much on them.

I agree - we have a full bar in our house but we never have margaritas so it's the one style glass we haven't bothered to acquire yet (and we are overrun with glassware - 3 different style beer glasses, red wine, white wine, stemless, stemware, champagne, rocks, martini....it's too much to be honest lol). I will if I find pretty ones for a bargain, but they just wouldn't get as much use as the rest of the glassware.
  • I agree with Christmas tree shops, but I've always seen cheap glass sets for under $10 at Marshalls,TJ Max, or Home goods if you have any of these stores around....

  • I've never heard of Christmas Tree Shops, but in my 'hood I'd head straight to World Market for things like this.

  • Ditto the Dollar Tree!  They have pint glasses, wine glasses and sometimes margarita glasses (not plastic!!!) for $1.

You can also order in bulk online and pick up at the store so you know they will have the quantity you need.

Forgot about that.  We did that for some items needed for our wedding. It was so convenient.
