Wayfair Furniture Delivery - Tip?
Our nursery furniture will be delivered on Friday (WOOHOO!!!!). I found it on clearance on Wayfair and it is super high quality furniture and I'm getting 3 pieces (convertible crib, double dresser, nightstand) for about what the crib is when it is at full retail price.
Delivery is free and they are delivering it to the entryway, but not upstairs. I'm going to ask them to "pretty please with sugar on top" ask them to take it upstairs for me.
What would you tip them if they do? And if they only bring it inside the door would you tip at all?
They would be carrying it up one set of stairs and the nursery is right at the top.
Re: Wayfair Furniture Delivery - Tip?
Congrats on the good deal with the nursery furniture!
If it were me, I'd offer $40 to take the furniture upstairs. But I doubt the moving person would agree to move it. As other PPs have pointed out, there are usually different price points for how far they will take the items. I suspect there are probably even strict rules that don't allow them to take tips to move items past what they have been contracted for.
My mom shipped a large, antique armoire for me that has been in our family for over 100 years. There were three different price points. Curbside, front door, or wherever you wanted it in the house (with different prices again, depending on the number of stories). I was shocked there was a difference between curbside and front door. But there was and it was a good sized difference. Around $60.
This is where I'm at on this
Enjoy getting the nursery together! Very exciting!
However, in 2015, when we bought a bunch of items from Macy's for our family room, I did ask the two movers if I paid them each $20 cash if they wouldn't mind carrying our old, long sofa to the basement, down a flight of stairs. They said "yes" almost immediately.
I didn't tip them for the furniture that was new from Macy's and I would not have. I technically paid them to move other furniture that had nothing to do with the Macy's purchase.
My thought, is I wouldn't ask unless I was willing to part with at least $10 per mover (no more than $20 per mover). But, you have to decide how tough it will be for you or your husband to move the items.
With our sofa, I knew it would be a pain and DH would have to ask neighbors to help. I figured the worst they could say was "No." And $40 ended up being worth it.
