Sort of a MM win... new job!

Well I'm pretty stoked, I got a new job!  I start on the 10th.  At my current job, I'm paid an hourly rate with monthly bonuses that are based on my office's production (which I don't have much to do with).  At this new gig, the salary based off the hourly rate is more than my old salary plus bonuses combined, and it's guaranteed versus having to hope for the best!  And, it's in a more stable industry as it's not directly tied to the real estate market like my current job.  And, my current job has told me I can come back anytime should this new one suck, but I don't think it will, it seems like a great company.

Plus, I'll get 4 weeks PTO, they pay 100% of my insurance premiums AND I get to wear jeans to work!  Yay!!

Once I see where my paychecks end up, I'll probably come back to have y'all help me decide where to focus my extra cash on.

  • Yay! That sounds awesome, congrats! Have you gotten to take a look at what the insurance covers? I think my current employer was kind of shady because they made it seem like them 100% covering the premiums was a huge thing, but it turned out to be a high deductible plan with a $6500 deductible haha. I hope your coverage will be better than that!

Not yet.  I do know that for the "free" plans, they offer 2 with United Healthcare, one is an HSA and the other is a PPO.  They also offer 2 more plans that are probably lower deductible, but I would pay the difference in premium for those, so we'll see!  My current is an HSA plan with a $5,000 deductible so it's not that great anyway, and I pay $50/month for it.   So, even if it's the same as that it's still a win haha!

Woof! My old employer covered my premiums (just the employee - they covered nothing for spouse and family) but the deductible was only $1,500 for a single person. It's really only an issue in the years you need it, but with a deductible that high you would qualify for an HSA at least. My current employer actually PAYS ME to not take the health insurance. It cost $194/month to add me to my husband's plan and my company pays $200 each month you waive the insurance (you have to provide proof of alternate insurance to do this though) so it feels like I am still getting my full premium paid! Actually - $6 profit lol

This is more how my H's job works... they pay 100% and his deductible is only like $1000, but they don't offer much of anything for spouse/family.  I mean I could be added on but the deductible goes way up and the premium is high.  I'm hoping this is how this new company is, sure would be nice to have a low deductible for once.

His company doesn't offer an HSA, but they do a "stipend" sort of thing, to help cover copays etc.  He just got a check for $500 from them for that.
  • Congratulations on the new job!  That's really exciting and sounds like it will be a great switch.
