Weekend Plans?

What are you up to -

Tonight?

Saturday?

Sunday?

GTKY - If you had $1,500 of unbudgeted fun money, what would you do with it?

Re: Weekend Plans?

  • Tonight- I'm WFH today so I'll be washing guestroom linens in preparation for my ILs to come visit next week. Tonight DH and I need to focus on cleaning up clutter and making sure everything is in its place so we can clean this weekend.

Saturday - Saturday is cleaning day. If I have time, I am going to go to my mom's house and pick up all of her outdoor potted plants so I can keep them watered for her while my family is out of town for Thanksgiving. MM bonus - free fall decorations and flowers!

Sunday - Catch up on our outdoor projects and hopefully complete them finally. We're petsitting my sister's monster lab so he and our dog can chill outside all day while DH and I work on stuff.

GTKY - If you had $1,500 of unbudgeted fun money, what would you do with it? I can't decide if I would contribute to one of our savings goals or just buy something just for fun. There's nothing we seriously NEED at the moment, but I feel like savings wise, we're on track without doing anything extra. I'm seriously thinking about buying a shed so we can move our lawn care stuff out of the garage to make room for DH's woodcraft hobby, but I don't know if we'd do better cost wise to buy our own materials and build it custom or to buy one of the kits from Home Depot or somewhere similar. I'm not sure how we'd get the most bang for our buck.

Tonight - Sleep sounds really good!  I was logged into work until 1am this morning installing quarterly patches.  Just trying to keep my eyes open right now. :(

Saturday - Have a group get together in the evening.

    Sunday - no idea.

GTKY - It's funny you ask that.  There's currently an extra $1300 sitting in my checking that i'm trying to figure out what to do with. :)

  • Tonight-Relaxing and potentially meeting with a doula

Tomorrow-Thanksgiving prep! Cleaning, shopping, maybe some pre-cooking.

Sunday-I'm subbing in at church daycare, then more Thanksgiving prep

GTKY-If I had to use it on fun, I'd save it for a trip to Ireland next summer. Flying out of Boston we'd only need a smidge more than that to book. There are always crazy package deals for $800-$900 pp including flights and lodging.
  • @jtmh2012 That's too bad you couldn't start work a little late this morning. I hate late nights at work!

DH recently sold some company stock he was given a few years ago and we're trying to figure out what we'd like to do with it. Normally it's not available for sale and this time for once it was, and the price jumped up past a point where he always said he would sell if it was a certain $ value, so we went for it. He already got to spend his "fun" portion, some antique guns and knives from a co-worker's husband who was a life-long collector. So now it's up to me to figure out what I'd like to do with the rest.
  • What are you up to -

Tonight? I have off this afternoon to get the window on my car replaced, and after I'm going grocery shopping for Thanksgiving/the million potlucks we seem to be going to/Xmas cookies supplies. And laundry in the evening. Fun times, but H is at an event with my dad today so I get the house to myself and I'm kind of excited about that.

Saturday? book club, then family get together, then maybe (hopefully?) some personal clothes shopping (need a concert-ready white top) then going to my grandma's in the evening.

    Sunday? Church then potluck.

GTKY - If you had $1,500 of unbudgeted fun money, what would you do with it? Ideally I'd travel with it, but realistically I'd use it on house decor that I've put off because of the price, namely curtains and a headboard for our bedroom. Also on frames for my hallway travel photo project that hasn't come to fruition yet.
  • Tonight? Nada

Saturday? Heading 1.5 hours away to meet up with a few other nesties for brunch.  Then grocery shopping for Thanksgiving.  H and I are debating doing a date night and seeing Fantastic Beasts.
I have a mystery shop available for both the movie theatre and Buffalo Wild Wings.  So I'm tempted to do those as our "date night" so they can be reimbursed.

Sunday? Church then we're going to put one of the toy cars in storage for the winter.

That's a hard one.  I would want to use it to buy DD a big girl bedroom set.

What are you up to -

Tonight? At work today, but will be leaving at 3 to pick up DD#2, then get DD#1 off the bus. DH has p/t conferences so I'm hoping the pizza dough I have rising at home will work for dinner.

Saturday? DD#2 has a birthday party, the plan is to clean, grocery shop, yard work, dinner and Sabres game with DH (girls are staying the night with DH's parents).

Sunday? I get to watch Sunday morning (uninterrupted) and eat breakfast on the couch (uninterrupted)! We'll get the girls after that- laundry, meal prep, football, relax

GTKY - If you had $1,500 of unbudgeted fun money, what would you do with it? I would save it for our NYC trip in August.. use it for dinners and probably 2 more tickets to see Hamilton the following night (have a feeling we'll want to see it again!)

  • @cbee817 Oooo Hamilton tickets are an excellent idea!!
  • Tonight- The painter is going to be done today, so my mom is going home. I have a gym class tonight then my cousin is coming over for the weekend. I hope I get home before she gets there so I can at least wash the guest room sheets from my mom's stay this week.

Tomorrow- Early visit to the Dr's office. The off to the Christmas craft show at my old high school with my cousin and our aunt. We'll probably go out to lunch afterwards.

Sunday- Cleaning and putting the house back together from the painter and all of our guests.

GTKY- I have no idea!  What a problem to have. We'd probably paint the basement. That's our next paint project and should come in around $1500.

I probably could have, but I prefer to be around the morning after patches are done.  At least I'm sitting at home and not in the office. :)

I swear home decor is ridiculously overpriced.  Especially curtains and rods.

  • Today I'm helping out as a demonstrator at the yoga studio.  They are recording videos to put on their website for streaming.  Tonight we will probably just hang out at the house.

Saturday DH is working in the morning and we are going out at night to celebrate my dads bday

Sunday I would like to winterize the patio - bringing in cushions and that kind of stuff.

I'd put $1500 towards my hardwoods floor fund

Not much going on today or tomorrow.  I'm going to try and talk my H into hitting the Harrahs buffet tonight.  I have a coupon for two free ones and tonight is Seafood Extravaganza.  Which he will hate, but I will love, lol.  To be fair, they always have their typical fare that he likes just fine.

Sunday is my birthday and we are going out to lunch at one of our favorite casual dining places.  It's actually a mystery shop.  I'm so penny pinching, I even make sure going out for my bday is reimbursed, lol.  Once we return home, I've decided it will be a "Mimosa Sunday".  Champagne and OJ all day long.

I have to be boring with my hypothetical surprise $1500.  I'd use it toward my next HELOC payment.  But, if I were doing something fun, a long weekend in Chicago.  My H has never been and it is a short, cheap flight from NOLA.

@short+sassy Happy birthday! You deserve those mimosas! Enjoy
  • Tonight - We're heading to a friends surprise birthday party

Saturday - MIL's birthday so we are going to see Fantastic Beasts and dinner with her

Sunday - I have a massage scheduled, a tastefully simple party, and my mom's birthday dinner.

Busy weekend full of birthday celebrations... There are SO many November birthdays in our family.

I would probably use it to re-do our upstairs bathroom. We just want to re-tile the shower, put tile floors in and convert our vanity to a double vanity so that would be a good chunk to put towards that project.

    Happy Birthday @short+sassy!!!

Tonight: Probably go eat somewhere, and then I have to take H out to the airport to pick up a rental car.  He's going to a football game in Laramie tomorrow, and I need my car while he's gone, so he decided to use a free rental coupon he has, instead of taking his gas hog truck.

Saturday: I need to do a mass cleaning of my house.  I got the guest room and hall bath done already but the living room needs to be done... including spot cleaning the sofas :-P  My mom flies in Saturday night.  I also need to finish up my Thanksgiving plan and grocery list.

Sunday: Going to church with my mom (I hope I don't burn up LOL), then we are going up to have lunch with my BFF and her kid, then doing our Thanksgiving shopping.

ETA: Whoops forgot to answer the question!!  Well, the responsible side of me says I would just put it in savings as that would put me over my savings goal.  But, usually when I receive a larger sum of unexpected money via gift or whatever, I save half and spend half.  So in this case, I would save $750, and then spend $750.  I would like a handheld Dyson vacuum, and then I would spend the rest on having a house cleaner for a couple months.
  • @short+sassy HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I totally approve of a Mimosa Day!
  • Regarding home decor - I'm loving the At Home store in our area.  Pretty reasonably priced.
  • Tonight - going to hear the Alabama Symphony play Swan Lake and then drinks afterwards

Tomorrow - Cleaning and then shopping for our angel tree kid

Sunday - Hitting up some pre-black-friday sales (since this is now a thing) and then packing for our trip next week.  Leaving for Amsterdam on Wednesday via Toronto.

Bonus - The next $1500 we receive will go toward spraying our basement bathroom white so that we can finally reinstall the vanity down there.  Right now it's an ugly terracotta color, and it's just awful.

@vlagrl35 thanks for the suggestion! An At Home just opened up in our area a couple months ago, and I'm thinking about walking there while I'm waiting for my car to be done today since it's close-ish by. But I'm not sure I want to walk there alone since I'm not exactly feeling lucky/safe this week. But I'll definitely have to check it out sometime.
  • @short+sassy happy birthday and happy mimosa drinking!

Fri - It was a long, bad week at work.  I've been slammed lately.  I was looking forward to going home and moving on to the weekend.  Well when I got home I opened a letter that someone tried to open a credit card in my name.  I spent the next few hours working on fraud alert and putting in place credit freezes per @hoffse suggestion in an old thread.
Anyway, when that was done we went to a party (got there a little late).  Had a great time drinking wine, eating cheese and hanging out with friends.

Sat - Cleaned up a little around the house, did some shopping and went to a party.  It was a nice party with fantastic food.  Our friends had the party catered by a restaurant we like in the city.  Unfortunately they have a family funeral to attend and will be traveling Sun/Mon so they gave us a lot of the leftovers.  I'm hoping to stretch them the next couple of days so we don't have to do much cooking before leaving for a week in FL for Thanksgiving.

Sun - Watch football, work on the budget, coupons, cleaning, gym, etc.  Maybe brave the cold to walk to a couple of places to do some shopping.
