Happy Friday!

Well, I'm working today.....sorta.  It's more like standing the night watch in a closed museum.  There's a few random people online, but nobody really doing anything.

Re: Happy Friday!

  • oh that's too bad you had to work.  We went out shopping today only to realize black Friday is really only good if you get up early and do it.  We left the house at 10am lol.  I wanted to get DH a fragrance sampler at Ulta for half price but they were all sold out :(  We did find a 32 in tv at Best Buy for $100 but the store was out so we have to buy online which is fine.  It's going to be an xmas gift for our family.  got some lounge pants at gordmans for $7 - DH gives me a hard time because those are the only kind of pants I wear around the house.

We are hoping to get Xmas lights up outside our house tomorrow.  The high is 60 so we got to take advantage of it.
  • The good thing is I was working remotely from home, but pretty much the entire base is shutdown but I had to log in because there might be someone who might need something.  Right....

We haven't seen any black friday deals we're interested in.  The wife and I were looking at a tv for the living room.  Hate how you can't find a dumb tv anymore. :(  Also trying to make sure we can stream her thai tv to it.  Was going to try to surprise her, but I think that's not going to happen.  It's all good though.

  • I went crazy with Black Friday appliance deals.  Spent over $4,000, ugh.  BUT, it's all for our new duplex and I needed appliances for both units anyway.

    For that price I got 2 washer/dryer sets, 2 stoves, 2 fridges, and 4 ac/heat window units.

Originally I was going to buy all/most of the appliances used, but the deals were so good I could buy new for only $100-$150 more (per item) for the kitchen appliances.  They look a lot nicer and have much longer warranties.

One of the stoves we bought is nicer than the one we have at home.  So we are going to switch it out.  The new one has a 5th burner in the middle.  My H, the cook in the family, is super excited about that.  Though it is stainless steel, which doesn't match our other white appliances, but we don't care.

I also spent $50 to get three new sweaters and a pair of shoes.  The shoes replace a pair I wear all the time, but are now in bad shape.

I also spent $100 in Home Depot gift cards and $50 in Taco Bell gift cards, but got $32 back in Plenti points.  I know I can use the Plenti points at Rite Aid, but am wondering if I can use them at Exxon (Plenti partner).  That would be extra sweet.

On the topic of TV's, my parents needed a new living room TV and also found that they couldn't really find a dumb TV in the size that fits their living room. So they bought a smart tv and this weekend we helped them set it up and showed them how the apps work, etc. The smart features are cool, IMO, but I don't think they'll use them to their full advantage. They'd be just fine with a dumb tv lol.

As an IT person, I'm not against the smart features, I just think they're better implemented in a standalone box.  It won't be long before the built-in apps can't be updated and then you're left with something that at best just doesn't work (in terms of the apps) and at worst becomes a network security issue (I know, nobody cares).

So far the wife has nixed the tv idea even though she was the one who wanted it.  The good thing is it looks like the prices are normal prices since the 40" TVs aren't sought after as black Friday deals.

To your bolded - our TV is actually running into this right now. Our smart tv is from 2013 and the Pandora app isn't keeping up with the updates that Pandora has gone through recently. So far the TV app still works, but it's kind of laggy and the usability could use an update. It's nothing earth-shattering of course, but it made us wonder how long this TV will actually last us. And my H is also an IT guy so the lack of updates/usability drives him crazy.
