@Xstatic3333 gave me great ideas for my brother last year, but this year I need help with my mom!

She's in her 60s, still works and loves to travel, but is widowed/single.  She does yoga and likes to walk and garden.  Budget is $500-$750.  Any ideas?

Re: Christmas gift ideas?!

  • Here are my first thoughts:
    • Annual membership to her favorite yoga studio
    • Heirloom seeds of her favorite flowers/vegetables
    • Hotel voucher for a weekend yoga retreat
    • Does she need any new raised beds or fencing for her garden?

  • @LillibetteV has some really good ideas.

What about some really good noise cancelling headphones that she can take with her when she travels?
  • If she loves yoga you can't go wrong!  Does she belong to a studio in your area?  If not get her a year membership to a place she likes.
  • Sorry, I should have mentioned that she lives in a very small, rural community more than 90 minutes from any big city, so no yoga studios.  She takes classes through the town's parks and rec department.

  • oh that sucks @als1982 Does she have a good yoga mat if not you can get her one of those also yoga mat bag, eye pillow, yoga props like the infinity strap or yoga block.  Buy her an online membership for a yoga studio streaming website.

Do you have a brand you'd recommend?  I've never been able to get into yoga, so I'm totally clueless on the gear.

Garden fencing is a good idea.  I know she competes with squirrels for her vegetables.  Do you have a specific recommendation?

None whatsoever I've got a black thumb lol. Sorry to not be more helpful!
  • With my parents I've moved towards experiences versus gifts so I usually try and treat for something we can do together. This year I am taking them to see the Nutcracker and out to dinner that night.

Not sure how close you live but perhaps dinner and a show (if there is one local) would be a fun idea.

I really like Manduka for yoga gear. Well, I'll qualify that. The only Manduka item I actually own is my mat, but I want to buy all of their clothes! Honestly, a really top tier mat could be a good way to go for part of your gift! They make such a difference but can be tough to pull the trigger on buying for yourself. The best brands that I'm aware of are Lululemon (a "sticky" mat that is popular for hot yoga, but I have some issues with the brand), Manduka (lifetime guarantee, slightly less traction for hot yoga but plenty for unheated), and Jade (recycled materials, lasts a long time but not forever).

Also, I don't know what type of gardening she's specifically into but something I really want is a UV light setup for starting tomatoes inside. That's kind of a specific item, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
  • lulu lemon mat is what I own -totally worth the money and they have a lifetime warranty on their mat.  The thicker mat is the way to go.  They have a skinnier one but its not as good.

Their mats don't fit a normal size yoga bag so I got mine on Amazon

The strap I use is infinity strap.  I got it from infinitystrap.com
It really helps you get a better stretch that you can't get with your hands alone.

  • Check out Stark Brothers nursery online too. They sell plants and trees - including fruit trees and have been in business for a long time. If you were going to buy her raised beds or fencing, I'd go for cedar.

If you want heirloom seeds, try Territorial Seed Company.
