Plans for today.

What is everyone up to today?  Curious how many employers count today as a holiday.  My employer counted last week Monday, Tuesday and Friday as a holiday as well as today.  (Friday before Christmas Eve was a holiday too.)  My friend's employer didn't give holiday time since it landed on Saturday and Sunday.

Re: Plans for today.

  • We had the 26th and today as a holiday. I took off all week, but am wfh today to get a report finished that is released every Monday. With my old bosses, if I did this for both Mondays (4 hours each day), I would have been able to take 1 less day of vacation this week.. with my new boss, I just put vacation for all 4 days and we'll see if she lets me get a day back. Based on everything so far, I'm thinking no.   :/

  • I work at a hospital, so we just get a bank of PTO days to use that is combined holiday, vacation and sick days.  I'd rather use my days in the summer (and sell the rest), so I'm working today and haven't taken any days off the last two weeks except one day when I was sick.

  • We do all the federal holidays so it's a day off for us. I'm going to do some grocery shopping and chill. H has a major cooking project planned that will take over the kitchen for most of the day.
  • I don't start teaching again until school is back in session.  That will be Thursday for me.  DH is taking the day off and we are going to put away all indoor xmas decor and I want to lightly dust the family room and put it back together.  We are going down to DH's studio this afternoon so he can install his 3 exterior door knobs.  I am going to a 90 minute asthanga mix class tonight.
  • We have off today and have a few errands/activities planned.  The lack of traffic is great!
  • We follow the federal holidays so work recognizes today as a holiday. Helpful since I worked a few hours on Saturday and monitored my email on my phone when I wasn't activitely at my computer. I really hate end of quarter and it ended up being a complete waste of time since the contract signatures I was told to wait for never came. Today I'm taking down Christmas decorations, doing some laundry and grocery shopping later today. It's rainy so all of our outdoor lights and garland are spread out in the garage to dry and then I'll package them all up later.

Anyone have tips on efficient ways of storing garland and lights? I bought some zip ties this year to keep everything neatly together but I'm curious what everyone else does. It always seems really disorganized when I go to take everything out again the following the Christmas.

SITB: We use storage totes for most of our holiday stuff.  You can wrap lights around a piece of cardboard, etc if that helps.

  • Today I made sure to get up at my normal time.  I've been off since the Friday before Christmas.  Enjoyed a couple cups of coffee and watched the news, got a workout in and made the kids breakfast.  H and I are trying to get some things done around the house but relaxing too.

We put them back in their boxes.

As for holidays, I had today and the 26th off.  My wife has to work them.  She got Christmas off since the store was closed.  She wasn't on the schedule for yesterday,  but went in anyway.

  • I was off yesterday, so I did a little shopping and took all our Christmas stuff down. I hate that the house looks so empty now...

I'm giving the cardboard idea a shot this year. We've got plastic storage totes...but I can never seem to get everything back consistently in the way it was before. It seems like no matter how nicely I wrap up my lights or garland that it all comes out tangled again. On the plus side...when I packed up everything yesterday other than the outdoor stuff, I was able to use one less plastic tote than before (no clue how I managed that)...so I was able to fill that tote with some loose stuff that has been rolling around in my craft/holiday closet for awhile now.
  • My work gave us the 26th and the 2nd off for holidays.  I also only work a half day on Fridays (4 9's, Fri. 4 schedule), so I took vacation days for the last two Fridays.  It was stellar having two 4-day weekends in a row.

Though it has made today and last Tuesday rough, lol!
