I can't wait until June!!!!!

We just put down a deposit to get our master bathroom re-done this summer.  The same guy who did our kitchen is finally back to work following his surgery.  We were supposed to have it done last summer but he had to cancel due to his surgery.

We tried to get quotes last summer from other contractors but they ranged (guesstimates, not actual estimates) from $22k-$50k and I just couldn't justify that much money from an unknown contractor.

The guesstimate we got today was $12-13k and I'm thinking we might end up closer to $15k once everything is added up with the extra touches we are doing.  This is probably our last really big project until we have to start replacing windows and I can't wait for our new bathroom!

We are moving the laundry upstairs where our old (tiny) shower was.  We will have to buy new stackable appliances but it will be nice to have laundry upstairs with the bedrooms and 99% of our laundry.  We are ripping out an old huge tub and putting the shower there.  Installing in floor heating, new tile, new doors, new trim, new vanity, new mirrors, doing a semi custom closet install and putting glass and drywall up to finish closing up the wall between the master bathroom and master bedroom (currently goes about 3/4th of the way to the ceiling.

Our current bathroom is just gross...  It never feels clean no matter how much we scrub and I can't wait to have everything bright, shiny and new!!!!!!!

Once the laundry is upstairs our current mud room/laundry room will be re-worked to be a more functional mudroom.  Right now there is no storage for shoes or coats, the laundry machines and sink take up the whole space.  I think we will leave a sink and cabinet in there but make it smaller.  I'll add a cabinet to store some coats, a bench with shoe storage underneath and re-work the storage in the upper cabinets.

June can't come soon enough!!!!!

That's so fun!  Bathroom remodels are some of my favorite!

  • That is really exciting!  It's such a win-win to have a contractor who is BOTH a lot cheaper and delivers quality workmanship.
  • Nice!  That sounds like it will bring you so much joy!  I hope the timing goes according to plan :)

We have a few more inside projects that we will need his help on.  We need to remodel the guest bathroom and I would love to level out our large family room (it is a step down from the kitchen).  Leveling the floor would mean raising a sliding glass door, removing/reworking a fireplace hearth and the electrical outlets.  I'm hoping we can get all of this done before he decides to retire!
