Weekend Plans? TGIF!

What's going on for the weekend?

Re: Weekend Plans? TGIF!

  • Friday- Gym, grocery shopping

Saturday- Hanging out with a friend

    Sunday- Cleaning/laundry, visiting family

  • TGIF!  I've been feeling under the weather so I hope to get some rest.  It won't be a super busy weekend so that should be possible.

Fri- Gym, finish getting guest rooms ready for BnB guests that arrive tonight, relax and make progress on Breaking Bad season 5.

Sat - H is taking me on a date for breakfast and a movie (Rogue One).  Do some laundry and housework and more TV watching in the evening.

Sun - Out with one BnB and in with another...and more cleaning of the guest room.  Possibly finish Breaking Bad.  In the evening we have free tickets for a play.
  • Friday- working late then home to do some cleaning, including the dog crate.

Saturday- early class at the gym, lunch with my aunt and uncle, then a direct sales party my cousin is hosting.

Sunday- class at the gym, grocery shopping, laundry.

This week has been so long, I can't wait to have only one day with stuff going on. I'm tired, and starting in two weeks, I'll have six day workweeks for the foreseeable future. I'm soaking up every bit of these next two weekends.
  • We're finishing and submitting our taxes!  We had lots more deductions this year than in the past, so it's taken a while to compile them all.

  • Friday - I'm making taco soup for dinner and otherwise we'll probably just hang out at home. Hoping to get a nice walk in with the dog later this afternoon after it warms up a bit.

Saturday - One of my coworkers died this week after a long illness. My mom (who works for the same company I do) and I are attending her memorial service together and then we'll go shopping since we didn't get to go last weekend.

Sunday - Probably house cleaning. Maybe DH and I will go to the hardware store and get some supplies to finish some projects.

Last night I ran our taxes through TurboTax but didn't file them. We're still waiting on some small documents that shouldn't affect our taxes substantially. I'll have our CPA do the actual filing but it appears as though we won't owe this year!! We may even get a small refund of around a few hundred dollars back from the IRS. Also, our AGI is still low enough that I get to make a full contribution to a Roth IRA for myself and DH. I've been holding off on sending the last bit of money while I waited to check everything and luckily it's all good.
  • Tonight we are watching our nephews while my sister and BIL take our niece to go see Disney on ice.

    Saturday-nothing planned

    Sunday-church

We leave for vacation next Sunday so I'm hoping to get our taxes stuff all pulled together to leave with our accountant before we take off. Her husband (our bathroom contractor) says that she is already putting in 16 hour days.  Otherwise we just need to get the house cleaned up and a few minor projects off of our to-do list.

  • Tonight-No plans. May make a big batch of soup to freeze.

Tomorrow-H invited friends over for dinner. I am NOT excited about this plan. Really don't feel up for it. He has promised to do all cooking and cleaning required so I just need to get dressed and look pleasant.

Sunday-Just relax I suppose. Maybe bring our dog's "go bag" down to doggie daycare so my mom doesn't need to think about it when she drives him there on short notice.
  • @csuave, cracking out the BnB's.  Nice!

@Mustard76, ugh, 6-day work weeks are tough!  Is it just for a temporary period of time?

@labro, sorry to hear about your coworker's death.

Would you mind sharing the recipe for taco soup?  I'm not totally sure what it is.  But I love tacos and I love soup, lol.

Friday -- Picking up a check for $683 from my insurance agent.  Yeahers and FINALLY!  The original one got lost in the mail 4 months ago.  It's a overage refund for the flood insurance on one of  my rentals from when FEMA re-drew the flood maps.  All of it's going to cc debt.

Then, later in the afternoon, my termite people are coming out for their annual inspection and whatever else they do (I have a termite contract).

Saturday -- my usual p/t pic route with H.  Then we are going out for a mystery shop lunch.  I was excited to pick that up.  It's for a gourmet hot dog place that's delicious, but spendy.  $8-$12 for a hot dog or sausage!  But they have unique toppings and unusual sausages (like bison or alligator).  It's much better when someone else is reimbursing me for the meal, lol.

Sunday -- relaxing, not too much.

  • We have zero set plans for the weekend and I'm psyched about it! We've been so busy that I need to catch up on cleaning because last night all I could smell was dog. My husband assures me that it's my hyper sensitive preggo nose and that he couldn't smell anything but it is still grossing me out lol. So the dog and the house are all get a thorough scrub down. I lead such an exciting life lol....
  • that sense of smell is very intense @LillibetteV - I also love cleaning lol

Tonight I'm playing at a wedding.  Other than that we have zero plans.  I'll probably have DH help me on my website.  I had to redo it and there are a few things I had forgotten how to do.  Also started shopping for decor last weekend for the music room at DHs photo studio.  Went to several places last weekend.  May hit up Kohls and check out their home dept.  I still need a clock and there is this music nerd one I found online that I might get if I can't find any - for example instead of the 1 on the clock its a quarter note and instead of 2 its a half note - only musicians will get this lol.  Its the nerd in me.
  • @short+sassy It's one of my freezer meals so the recipe is pretty basic.

  • Whole weekend: Zero plans!

Tonight I might go to a Lularoe party, but I'm not sure yet.

I do need to pack and get some things buttoned up this weekend since we lave for Hawaii on Thursday evening. Still need to fully figure out a few hikes we want to make sure we do, so I need to research a bit more and make a list.

Saturday: church event, then hopefully shopping for bathroom accessories that we've been putting off shopping for
Sunday: church, then nothing, and I can't wait!
  • Tonight - H is out of town, so it's just me and the cats.  I'm probably going to spend some time working on scanning in documents from Q3 and Q4 of 2016.  I'm behind...

Tomorrow - H will be home, then finishing the basement and going to the symphony in the evening.

Sunday - Planning to see Rogue One today

I also need to clean and start my next reading project.  We are headed to Spain at the end of March, and I want to read Don Quixote before we go.  It's 900 pages....!

  • @brij2006 - can't remember if you went to Kaua'i last time….if not please go you will thank me later
  • @vlagrl35 We're actually going to Maui this time.  It was a hard decision to decide between Maui or Kauai.  But hiking is our love over there and I get winded much easier than when we booked the trip.  So now I'm thanking myself for doing Maui.  The hiking in Kauai is much more challenging.

It should be temporary, but it'll be for an undetermined amount of time. Two of my staff members have been promoted, so now there are two of us that have to do the work of four people. And I'm the only salaried person in my office, so I'm the only one with any flexibility. It sucks big time. Hopefully I can find a few qualified applicants. And then find the time to interview them. Ha!

yeah that makes sense.  I'm not a hiker.  Is it just you and your DH?  Do you mind if I ask about how much this trip is costing and for how many days?  We will be going back in 3 years but will be taking DD with us - she will be 8 by that time.  Hard to think of her that much older :(
  • @vlagrl35 It will just be H and I.  I'd actually recommend Maui for a family.  It's much less crowded than Oahu and has great beaches.  Especially with her being 8, you could spend a ton of time on the Road to Hana and do a bunch of experience on there that are suitable for her age.

Don't mind sharing our costs at all.  We budgeted $6,500 for it when we were pricing it out, but we haven't gone the cheapest route we could with things and have splurged a bit for a couple things we wanted.  We'll be there 10 days.
    The breakdown is as follows:
    $550 convertible rental car
$2,500 oceanfront Airbnb 1 bedroom rental.  We could have saved $1,000 by not going oceanfront and renting a studio instead.
    $1,800 flights out of Chicago.
$160 for hotel and 10 day parking in Chicago (staying the night before our flight)
$1,500 for spending cash (food, entertainment, gas, etc)

Keep in mind we're also going in the dead of winter.  Out of the Midwest.  When everyone else wants to get somewhere warm.  So that's the cheapest we're likely to ever find flights for these travel dates.  We also splurged on the convertible car (worth every penny IMO) and ended up booking the Airbnb that's oceanfront.  We were between that and staying in the upcountry area in a remote cabin, and there was a $1,000 price difference.

We also overshot for spending cash, just in case we want to do a couple nice dinners out or book a couple tours.  Since we're renting a condo this time we'll pick up groceries and cook there for 2 meals/day and eat out the third.

  • @brij2006- wow that's way more than we spent in 2009.  Our flight was cheaper and that was in October.  We did a beach front rental like you on the ocean front and so worth it.  We made a lot of our meals to save money but obviously did splurge on a few seafood restaurants as well.  I know we didn't have that much spending money in our budget.  I want to say we only spent around $3k for the 2 of us 7 years ago.  I know it will be more expensive next time by just adding adding another person.  I want to stay 14 days next time - 1 week in Kauai and 1 week in the Big Island but Maui sounds nice too.
