What are your favorite money saving (or making) apps?

Since it's still slow around this place!  :)

Re: What are your favorite money saving (or making) apps?

  • to save money I love the Ebates plug-in on Chrome. I just get coupons/cash back on crap I needed to buy anyways.
  • I use retailmenot a lot.. Usually whenever I make a purchase I search for a coupon on there first. The other day I got 10% off target and saved $7 on an online order.

Target also always has a 1% Ebates that you can stack. Plus then use their Redcard for 5% off if you have it. I primarily do online orders with in store pick-up now so I can get the Ebates cash-back and skip the temptation to buy other stuff as I am walking through the store. I'm in, I'm out, I manage to stay on task 95% of the time!
  • I like Target's cartwheel.
Can you use it with online shopping?  I would love to stack it with eBates.

Unfortunately not - I've looked lol. I wish Target would be added to the ebates in-store offers so it would all stack! I do check cartwheel for offers before I do an online order though to make sure I'm not missing some crazy good deal that I should just go in for.
  • I found out about this one recently:
    http://www.cashbackmonitor.com

You search for the store you're going to shop at and it'll display who gives reward points/cash back for the store you searched for.  Sometimes it's a little off according to some reviews, but it has been right for me so far.

  • We use cartwheel, ebates, checkout51 (for groceries), and our Amex cards has rotating discounts or offers that are pretty decent. The rebate checks aren't huge, but that hopefully means we aren't spending a ton either.

  • anyone heard of shop kicks yet?  I used it for the first time in target yesterday.
  • LOVE Ebates!  Especially since they added their in store options.  For online purchases, I often find MrRebates offers more cash back, though the way they payout rebates is a little wonky...

I'm also a fan of Ibotta, which the only app I know about that offers rebates on produce and booze.  (I've redeemed more rebates on Yellowtail wine than I'd care to admit!)

And I like the Mileage Plus X app for earning miles when I go to Panera, Bath and Body Works, Panda Express and other places where I can't get any other benefits!

  • Can someone send me a referral code for Checkout51?  I don't have that one!

Ebates and Retailmenot. I don't go out of my way to watch for deals but if there is something I'm looking to buy I try to take advantage of whatever coupon codes I can.

Yesterday I made an order on White House Black Market because a friend had given me a gift card. Effectively, I paid a total of $0.63 for an outfit (full price unfortunately but that's what my coupon was for.

My pre-discount total was $104.39 (including tax). I got $2.55 off for WHBM Rewards, free shipping and $50 off for my $50 off $100 coupon (full-price purchase only), and then I had a giftcard for $50. My ebates cash back was $1.21 and the charge to my credit card was $1.84 which is how I came up with the $0.63 effective charge.
  • Ebates,  retailmenot, and Walmart savings catcher. I also use mypoints.com to print out grocery coupons.  You get points for how many you redeem and that can be put toward gift cards.

Anyone use ibotta?  I downloaded the app, but it seems confusing.

I tried Ibotta a couple times, but the app seemed to have trouble with the receipt pictures from my phone and I didn't have the patience to deal with it lol. I'm sure it would save us a lot of money, though.

I like Ibotta.  I don't use it much, mostly for produce and alcohol, but it's unusual to have coupons or cash back for those items (especially living in a state where you can't buy booze at grocery stores or gas stations).

  • I use ebates, retailmenot, cartwheel, grocery store specific apps for digital coupons/savings.  Oh I also get text coupons from places like Old Navy, etc.

I saw this online probably about a month ago and passed on it.  Decided to try it last night after reading this.  Worked ok for us, but I think it works a lot smoother at places that are able to scan your phone vs having to write the number on the bottom of the receipt.  I now have 100 miles I wouldn't have otherwise though. :)

Agree.  I typically only use it in places where they won't be taking the phone out of my sight.

I wasn't so much worried about that.  We went to Chili's last night to test it since they have those Ziosk things.  Figured it would make things easier, but the Ziosk only allows the use of swiped cards.  So we ended up writing the number on the receipt and giving it to the waiter.

Supposedly, you can buy Starbucks cards with it and then transfer the funds to another card on your account.  Haven't tried that yet, but it's next on our list.

I also did read in a review that at least with Chase the transactions still code correctly, so if it happens to be a 5% bonus category, you still get the points.  Haven't tested that yet.

I'm keeping it on my phone for now, but will probably only use it at places where you normally wouldn't return anything.
