I haven't been checking in for weeks, but I wanted to start back in!
My good news: I have gotten back on the exercise train, and I am happy to report that my back is actually holding up fairly well! I did a 3-hr yoga workshop Saturday. Sunday, I swam almost a mile. Tuesday, I did personal training (mostly lifting) and 30 min on the arc trainer.
Wednesday, I have most exciting news -- I ran for the first time since my back injury 2+ years ago!! I wanted to take it easy, so I only did a half hour on the treadmill. I alternated 3 minute intervals of walking and running. It felt *awesome*, though of course, I'm pretty sore today. I'm just psyched I was able to do it, and my back didn't hurt!!
I have yoga tonight, which means I'm grabbing somethign small on the way ... hopefully this weekend I'll ahve time to cook and load up on healthy foods for next week when I'm in training.
Thanks for letting me AW a bit about my run!
Re: (#) Thursday check-in
So glad your back is doing better! And yay for your run! That's great!
I'm doing alright. The weather has been weird here, so it's been hard to plan good running schedules. I've been experiementing a bit with some of the free exercise videos that come through my Comcast On Demand, so hopefully I'll find one I like.
On Monday I went running (Day 2, Week 6) but couldn't run on the track, so I ran on the street. I think the crooked sidewalks threw me off, because I came back and my knee was a little swollen. So I've been icing it and taking it easy this week, though I did go for a strenous walk yesterday. I'm hoping to be back at it tomorrow.
Which reminds me - jaime and anyone else with knee problems - the March 2009 Martha Stewart magazine has a great article about knee injuries, different types, and how to prevent them. I've got a hard copy, but I'm sure it's online somewhere.
Soprano, that's great news about your back not hurting. I'm so glad you're able to get back into exercising with no pain, and hope it keeps up!
As for me, I finished couch to 5k on Tuesday!! I cannot say enough good things about that program. I haven't been running since though, as I'm fighting off getting sick and want to nip it in the bud. Might go after work today if I'm up for it, but definitely tomorrow. My plan is to run 3 miles 4 times a week until I figure out a training schedule -- I want to run the Chicago 1/2 in Sept.
