I hate my HOA

Ok, moved in December, and they have been sending us letters for various "violations" since before we even closed on the house! I swear every week we get a new letter for something stupid. Well, they've sent us 3 letters about the basketball hoop that we had up- it has been in the ground permanently-ish since 1990 (thats what the concrete said anyway). So we go to dig it up- the concrete is 3 feet + deep, and 2 feet in diameter- more than 500 lbs of concrete!

We went and rented a jackhammer that cost more than $50 for the 2 hours we rented it and dug that sucka out. I swear half the neighborhood stopped by to see what we were doing- and when we told them it was the HOA they got pissed (everybody did)- I guess our HOA are a bunch of nazi-ish old people who take sick joy out of torturing residents.

Yesterday, DH was trying to dig out the post, and the HOA drove by SLOWLY (like 2-3 mph-ish) and were laughing at him as they stared at him trying to dig up the thing THEY are making us take down. The neighbors were bummed because they always came over and played on the hoop!

So I just wanted to vent my annoyance at HOAs. My back REALLY hurts after using a sledgehammer and jackhammer today (I have a bad back)- and I hope it gets them off our azzz for a week or two- until they find something else to torture us about!

Ok, vent over, lol- thanks for reading!

Re: I hate my HOA

  • I hate my HOA too. We have to apply to have a satellite dish installed and submit pictures of the location we plan to install it in. We did that in January. We have still not been approved. They are more concerned with the "illegal" satellite dish one of our neighbors put up and want us to tell them who it belongs to. We didn't, but now I almost feel like making a deal with the devil and telling them who it belongs to, in exchange for approval for our dish! Devil

We have not had TV since we moved in in Nov! We waited until Jan to make sure we could still afford Direct TV, and now we are getting screwed by the HOA. They said they are "re-reviewing" their policies to see if there is room to make changes. Apparently they deny everyone their application, so people just "illegally" install them instead.

  • Married-That sucks. I would be so pissed. It's not like you're the one who put it in. You should submit your bills to them. lol

Janet-SO DUMB! I thought my HOA was bad. I can't believe they are making you get approval for a dish! DUMB!!

  • Wow! I am angry for you.
  • I'm familiar with your HOA, they harrass my best friend and her husband. They got 12 violations for their grass because they had a dead spot they could not get rid of. It was about 2 ft x1 ft in the front corner. They finally had to submit plans to the HOA that showed how they were going to rip it out and add in plants. It took two months to get it approved by the HOA but they were still getting tickets for it. That HOA is a big ol' PITA. I'm sorry that they're harrassing you too
  • Lol- yeah, I had no idea what a PITA they were going to be. I swear- people must have better things to do with their lives than to harass people who work hard for a living and don't have every minute of the day to spend on housework or yardwork. Believe me I would love to do yardwork all day- but I can't :(  Glad to know its not just me, but wish it didn't happen to other people too! The president of the HOA lives like, 4 houses down from me, so that probably doesn't help things much, lol!

  • Oooh that is obnoxious... I don't understand why they feel they have to rule others' lives - some sick, twisted satisfaction they must get!

  • oh man that sucks. I am so sorry you had to do all that work just cause they have a stick up their butts.
  • Wow, makes me appreciate our HOA. They have never hounded us about anything other than a blanket we used to cover a window when we first moved in. Honestly, I don't think they do enough regulating around here for the amount of money we pay. I guess there should be a halfway meeting point.

That's ours!!! UGH!!! The house across the street has had their hose out in their yard for like 2 weeks, the grass is brown, and they have a JUNGLE of weeds and leave their kids toys out front all the time and NEVER lock their dog up ( I should call the cops!). The other day, their stupid dog came running over into OUR yard and was bothering my dogs... Vegas was about to KILL IT! LOL!! ( I'm off subject here)

We submitted our info 7 weeks ago for the pool.... nothing.... but they cashed our check! UGH!!

I thinkt that HOA's should prevent residents from painting their house pink, or allowing cars up on blocks, not bother people about things like blankets when you first move in, stuff that the previous owners did (give more than enough time to fix/replace it) or stuff like that.

    (vent over)
