During lunch I had to make a stop at the post office. While in line I noticed a small dog, a terrier mix, curled up on the floor. I assumed it belonged to someone in line, but as the people ahead of me moved on with their business the dog just stayed in its place. When I asked the postal clerk about it, she said that a lot of people had been dumping their dogs in their parking lot recently. Hearing that they had dealt with this before, I assumed that they had called animal control and were just waiting for a pick-up. As I was driving away, however, I saw the clerk lure the dog outside with some food and then shut the door! I continued driving down the street a bit, but then felt so bad I went back to the lot to try to look for the dog and at least leave it some of the doggie biscuits I have in the car. It was nowhere to be found.
I just feel so awful. Maybe I shouldn't have asked the clerk about it so he could have just stayed there longer. I probably should have called animal control myself when the clerk told me why he was probably there. *sigh*
I can't believe people can easily abandon their pets like that on the street.
Re: I felt so useless :-(
this makes me so sad
last week, the hub and i watched a group of folks moving their stuff out of their apartment. the next morning, we walked by the unit, happened to turn our heads, and saw an open screen door, keys on the counter, a bag of dog food on the floor, and the DOG - abandoned.
i called the manager, who called the tenants, and found that they couldn't take the dog with them to their new place. the friends who were going to take the dog backed out, and they couldn't find anyone else to take him.
so they. left. him. ALONE.
i wanted to cry.
They probably thought they were saints for leaving a bag of food.
I CANT EVEN BELIEVE THAT! That is so horrible that I am almost crying in class right now. What post office was this? People are dumping their dogs??? What kind of world do we live in????!!!
?
?
I can't believe some people, I just can't.
This is so sad. I want to cry for all these animals.
And of course flog anyone who buys from puppy mills or can't be bothered to spay or neuter their pets.
