How bad is Rancocas Valley HS?
So far we've been told that the elementary schools in Lumberton are great, but the HS is not good at all. In looking online, it seems that is true by it's performance against state averages.
Can anyone enlighten me any more?
Re: How bad is Rancocas Valley HS?
I didn't go to RVHS, but we played them in sports. I think it's just a 'rougher' crowd.... they were always overly aggressive and tended to bend the rules during our games.
I don' t know how their academics are, but the performance report card should be a good indication...
Call the main office of any school you are concerned about and ask to schedule a tour. You will see everything you need to in a few hours. That's the only true way to see what type of atmosphere your children can expect. It beats online stats anyday though is more time consuming.
H and I both attended and worked as a staff member at RVRHS. Ten years later I still have the same core group of friends from HS. We all graduated college and are successful. I honestly believe that it is a good school. I do not know specific data off the top of my head... but I know that they do have more AP courses than other local high schools.
I have friends that attended Shawnee and Lenape and we have had many discussions to compare the schools. They are both good schools. The Lenape Regional schools seem to have less diversity among students and a higher overall socioeconomic status. However, I did not experience the type of peer pressure my friends at the other schools faced (body image, drug use, sex).
Every staff member from that school that I know personally seems to have a good opinion about the school.
I can completely relate with that last post about the type of HS and peer pressure because my husband and I both attended what he refers to as "white marshmellow country club high" in Monmouth County and neither of us enjoyed that aspect of school - body image, whose driving what, drugs, partying at huge houses... not something we loved about our school, but academically we were offered many opportunities.
I'd love to tour the school, but we live in Atlanta and have very limited time for our house hunting trips (but it was a great suggestion). Our daughter is only 3, but we'd like to avoid moving every again if possible.
Great suggestions, thanks so much for the help! Our realtor has been a great help but I like to bounce things off others. Give us more to think about
