pink slips. Does that mean you no longer go back this year or is it at the end of the year you just dont go back after summer? Sorry may be a dumb question.

Not necessarily either of them. We definitely stay throughout the year. Since they know they have to make cuts due to the budget, they are required to notify those who are potentially in danger of not being rehired for next year. They determine who is potentially in danger based on seniority and hire date. Our contracts are only for one year technically. I know that at my school last year all first year teachers got pink slips and none of them were actually laid off after the school district budget was finalized. So we just have to wait and see what the situation is after the budget is finalized in a few months.

Where I am, San Ramon, it all depends on a parcel tax that needs to pass. ?If it passes I will have a job for next year, I will know on 5/4. ?If it does not pass...I am up *** creek.

There are a lot of teachers who are hired as temps., myself included. They work one year contracts. At the end of the year we are out of jobs, but the district can choose to hire us on for the next year, or make us probationary (if there is room for a permanent teacher).

We (myself and many others in my position) will be working 'till the end of the year and then will not be employed by the district as of June. Fingers crossed that they can hire us back on for next year.

Californiaborn, I didnt know you were hired on as a temp. I started the school year as a temp, but was then bumped up to probation I....this isnt your first year teaching is it?

I am praying that they pass the parcel tax.

I am praying that every area makes the necessary modifications and taxes necessary to keep our teachers. I am really scared of what will happen if we do not.

I'm a Prob 1, too. Temp and probationary are different but probs are still probationary for their first 2 years. Basically until they finish BTSA, a 2 year mandatory program that you must complete in order to "clear" your credential. So prob 1 usually have a preliminary cred (kind of like a provisional driver's license) instead of a "clear" one (like a permanent, although there are still things you have to do to keep it current/updated)...

I would have been a 5th year teacher with tenure and still would have received a pink slip. The district I was working in will know in mid May how many teachers will actually be let go. Those that received a PS but are kept on may not keep their current assignment. My best friend has 6 years in with her district and got a PS as well and isn't sure if she'll have a job next year. If she does she already knows she won't be in the same position that she's had for the last 6 years.

That sucks! I'm sorry for your friend. In my case, I'm hoping my assignment changes. I'm not teaching what I should be.
