It's official

My husband is a cop again.  We were waiting on another job, which we were hoping would come through, but that company is STILL on a hiring freeze.  When the sheriff called he decided to give it a shot.  I'm happy he has a job (and will be using his degree with that job) but I am so scared that he might have to work a car accident or he could get shot.  But I guess I shouldn't dwell on those things because there are a ton of cops out there and not all of them have bad things happen to them.

Re: It's official

  • Thats wonderful. Im sure its difficult to avoid thinking that way. I have 3 family members who are in the police force and all doing really well if thats any consolation. My aunt is a police officer and my grandmother was so worried at first but she can definately handle herself. Another uncle is a detective in D.C. and then my other uncle is on the force and the swat team. Welcome back to the police family again :)
  • Mandy, he spent how many years in the AF working with just as or more dangerous situations? LOL  I know you already do, but you've just got to keep reminding yourself of how intelligent and capable he is - in a bad situation, Rich kind of seems like the kind of guy you want around unlike some of those officers you see on Cops that you think "Oh yeah.. HE'D be able to help me?!? LOL"  Think of how many people Rich can help and protect!
  • HAHA...good points paula! He's definitely more capable than those guys on cops!  And I know he was in more difficult/dangerous situations there but at least there I didn't "know" what was going on because he couldn't tell me.  I honestly think I'm less worried about his physical well being and more worried about what will happen when he has a head on collision to work.  But I'm sure he'll be ok.  He's strong.
  • I can understand that concern. Sad Have you voiced your concern?

You never know... his training might kick in.  Some people are able to do that - in horrible times like pulling up to a scene like that, they go into almost like autopilot and do what's got to be done.  It's like a special breed of person to be able to do that.

  • I don't blame you at all for feeling anxious, but it's nice to know there will be another "good" cop out there. I feel like I run into so many a$$hole cops.
  • I don't blame you for being worried.  I think every cop's wife worries.  It sounds like yh has a great head on his shoulders and the resident's that the sheriff's dept supports are so lucky to have him on their police force.

  • I think he'll be ok. I have voiced my concerns but he just says "This is what I used to do, I'll be fine." So he'll be fine.  He says so and that's that.  ;)

I think we're lucky to have him as a cop also.

  • I think it's only normal to be worried.  But, that it what he is trained to do and we thank him for it.  My brother used to be a cop and loved every minute of it, although my mom was a nervous wreck about it.  He was in a good neighborhood though, where it was more writing parking tickets and dealing w/ retail thefts than anything else.
  • That's great news Mandy.  I am sure everything will be okay and they will probably be some not so pleasant moments as well, but he is strong and very capable.  Derick and I had to have a talk about him becoming a cop.  I am okay with it, but I know I will worry to death as well whenever the time comes that he is a cop.
