Help. Need ideas.

Hello. My husbands birthday is next week. By some magic we both have this weekend off and even have a babysitter. Now what do we do?

I wanted to go to the beach. But the rooms on the beach in Gulf Shores are like $200+ a night. Thats a little out of the budget. Anybody have any other suggestions? Somewhere we can drive in less than 5 or 6 at the most hours.

I did find a KOA that has Cabins on the water in Gulf Shores... that is more affordable. Not to romantic or special though. If I don't find an alternative, I'll probably stay there. Can anyone give me suggestions on where to go in Gulf Shores?

Also, anyone have ideas on ways to make the weekend special/memorable?

Thanks in advance ladies. Ya'll are the best.

I use Young's Realty a lot to book our condos. I've stayed in the Boardwalk a few times and it's really nice. The camp grounds in Gulf Shores isn't the best. Definitely not a romantic weekend!! Have you tried Navarre, Orange Beach, or Perdido? The beaches there are also a lot nicer than Gulf Shores. I was just in Perdido this past weekend and the water was GORGEOUS!!

  • Have you considered Natitoches (I can't spell) or Natchez and get a B&B. That could be uber romantic!

  • I went to school in Natchitoches for several years, so its lost its novelty with me.

I am kind of leaning toward Biloxi, Alabama beaches, or Florida (Pensacola-Panama City). I even considered Memphis. My husband has never been to Beale St.

So many choices, so little time to plan. Ughh.

  • aw! i went to high school for two years in natchitoches. too bad that's not an option, because i've stayed in some really cute b&bs there. much better than the dorms, ha ha!

i dont' really have any good suggestions, but i hope you find something good!

  • Ok. So I think I've finally got it nailed. I found a reasonably priced hotel in Panama City, in walking distance to LaVela. I figure we drive down Friday after work. Sleep in Saturday, play on the beach and maybe parasail or jet ski. Then take a nap, grab a nice dinner, and head to the club that night. Brunch on Sunday and take our time driving home.  We don't ever go out here at home, my husband gave up that scene to play daddy, so I figure he deserves to cut loose once in a while. He has no idea where we are going. He just knows we are going away alone for 2 whole days, yeah!
