Broadway Shows

Hi Ladies,

DH and I are headed to NYC in April and want to see a broadway show. I'm torn between a few--The Lion King, West Side Story, and Guys and Dolls to name a few. I've heard the Lion King is amazing and of course the others are some classics. The other choices are here:

Anyone see any shows lately or have a recommendation so I can make up my mind? Thanks!?

Re: Broadway Shows

  • FWIW, DH saw The Lion King several years ago and *still* talks about it.  He swears it's absolutely fantastic and that he'd definitely go to see it again.

    Have fun! :)

  • Ohhhh I say Guys and Dolls but that's because I am biased.  One of my friends that went through Pilates certification with me last fall/early winter is one of the dancers on Broadway in it :)  I'm actually hoping to get to go see her and the show sometime later this year.
  • I vote for the lion king.

  • I would LOVE to see Guys and Dolls.  I've only ever seen the movie with Frank Sinatra and Marlin Brando, but it's one of my favorite movies.  I would love to see it on Broadway.  The only Broadway show I've actually seen was Avenue Q.  It was hilarious, but I guess it depends on your sense of humor. Some people would be offended.  Have fun whatever you decide!
  • I would post this on the Travel board; I actually posted this same question on the Travel board about a week ago.  I've only seen Mama Mia, which was really good.  I think it helps to know the music of Abba for seeing Mama Mia but it isn't absolutely necessary.  But I know several people who've seen The Lion King and loved it!  It's out of our price range right now so that's why we didn't choose that one.  But I also hear Guys and Dolls is fabulous (that's what was recommended on the Travel board) and that was more within our price range.  I think Lauren Graham is in it if I remember correctly.  I think we will see Guys and Dolls when we're there in May.  If you choose that one, let me know how you like it.

I've also heard that Wicked is fabulous.  If you haven't already, check out: www.Broadway.com/Broadway_Shows    It gives a good synopsis of each of the shows.  Have fun!

  • Thanks for the opinions ladies!?

Imanurse--thanks for posting that link, it looks helpful and hopefully will help me make a decision.

    Still torn!?

  • Not to confuse you further with another idea, but you may want to consider seeing "Wicked." It was FABULOUS and, in my opinion, better than the three on your list. Just a suggestion :)
  • Thanks...I'll check into Wicked! I remember seeing it listed, but didn't know a lot about it. Suggestions always welcome! : )
  • Hi! I love love love going to see Broadway shows and have seen a ton of them. From your list I would absolutely recommend The Lion King. It's in my top three favorite along with  Les Miserables and Rent which are no longer on Broadway. .I have heard fabulous things about Wicked as well and plan to see it in the future! Have fun with whatever you decide!
