I'm in a moral dilemma. I went to a running store about a half hour's drive south of here. When I went, the female owner helped me and was great! I got a pair of Brooks and loved them (I'd run in them on their treadmill for probably 15 minutes total.) I brought them home: 1st day, I had a hard time with them and thought "Okay, I need to break them in." So I wore them on shorter walks and very little running.
The holidays hit and my running didn't get the attention it deserved (okay, there was a LOT of sh*t going on that I'd rather not get into.) The sh*t carried over to New Year's or the week after. Because when I DID get time to run I didn't want to have to deal with breaking in new shoes, I wore them maybe twice. Both times, I experienced the same tight calves and the outsides of my feet hurt post-wear.
Then we were scrambling to get our trip sorted out, so my running still took back seat. I thought "I might want to take those back" but since it's an additional hour plus the time in the store out of my day, I didn't have that kind of time, so they sat while I got sick, then went to England (twisted my ankle), then came back sick. I tried them out after we got back and experienced the issues I had before PLUS I now get a shooting pain from the outside of my left foot up into my ankle.
OBVIOUSLY these are not the right shoes. (I've tried taking out the insoles in the shoes and putting my own in, I've tried them with their insoles, I've tried different socks, I've tried lacing them differently.) The receipt says "full refund within 21days; store credit/even exchange after that." No big deal... except I feel HORRIBLE taking shoes back from 3 months ago (with MAYBE 15-20 miles on them - they still look brand new.)
PLUS, one of my CWs went to that same store and watched the male owner THROW SOMEONE OUT because she wasn't interested in buying a pair of shoes, but only doing some research. CW went there on my recommendation (not great experience) and now I'M scared to go back (based on her experience) and encounter Mr. Mean Owner when I try to exchange a pair of 3 month old shoes!
So I'm torn. Do I:
1 - Take the shoes back (which I won't have time to do for AT LEAST another week, and will have to do on a weekend when they're busiest.) Exchange for new shoes or merchandise. (The thought of going back and doing this seriously makes my stomach clench and I'm afraid I'll go into total panic mode once I get to the store.)
2 - Eat the $90 and try a different store. (There are 2 in my town; I've been to one but they only had a dumba$$ kid working there who didn't help much. The shoes I got there were OK, but not quite what I needed and he never even evaluated me or put me on the treadmill to see if they helped.)

One more try.
Call ahead like Mel said. Try to talk to the lady who helped you. She'll probably tell you when to come in and have it all lined up for you so when you bring them in there won't be any nasty remarks from the other guy.
I agree. I would call ahead of time and explain the situation. I've done that and this way they know to expect me, especially if you are going to be going on the weekend which is busy for them. I would at least try. $90 is a lot of money. I can't believe he threw someone out. That's horrible!
