Ya know, you hear about random acts of kindness, but rarely ever see them happen or have them happen to you...
Tonight, Haley and I were at Target. We were there forever...over 2 hours...and we were ALL over the store from one end to the other. Anyway, Haley had a $20 gift card that she was going to use to buy a computer game with. When it came time for us to check-out, she realized that she no longer had it and must have sat it down somewhere or dropped it. The cashier asked us what was wrong and we told her. There was another Target employee (a man) behind us in line waiting to check-out himself. He had been making small talk with Haley about that computer game. So, I paid for everything except for the computer game and we left our buggy with all of our stuff with the cashier while we proceeded to re-trace our steps through the store trying to find it. No luck...it was nowhere to be found. So, we go back to get all of our stuff and the man who was in line behind us (the employee) handed me something. I looked at it and it was a $20 Target gift card!!! He said, I have a daughter too and I know she would be upset if she lost hers so I want your daughter to have this and buy her game. I tried handing it back to him and told him thank you but that I could not accept it. He insisted that I take it. I practically followed him to the door trying to put it back in his hand, but he refused to take it back. I asked him his name and he said Mark and Haley and I continued thanking him and telling him how nice and kind he was for doing that. I walked back over to the cashier to use it to get the game and just kinda looked at her like, OMG did you see what he just did and she said yes and that he is just a really nice man.
I think I was stunned that someone would do that. Haley and I talked about it the entire way home. We both ended up feeling really bad because...and I hope I don't offend anyone....but ya know, he is working at Target and has a family and probably couldn't afford to do that. Haley and I decided that she is going to make him a really nice thank-you card and we are going to put a $30 gift card to a restaurant in it and drop it off at Target for him as a way to pay him back and thank him.
I just wanted to share this story with you guys. It's nice to know that there are people like that in this crazy world!
Re: I can't believe what just happened!
Wow, that was incredibly sweet of him!
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
That is so kind! And you never know...he could have just been paying it forward. Someone else could have done something nice for him inspiring him to do something nice for you! This makes me feel happy since all we ever seem to hear about anymore is bad news.
That is SO awesome and I agree he could have been paying it forward so it made him feel good to do it.
I think he will appreciate you returning the favor or have Haley do the same for someone else and tell him the story, either or both.
It's definitely good to know good people are still out there. I'm glad she got to experience this act of kindness.
