What can I do?

Hello ladies... my sister just had her first baby 3 days ago (we are all so excited!!) and she had an unplanned c-section after 36 hours of labor.  She's coming home today or tomorrow and I would love to pick your brain on a couple things...

1. What "things" are most helpful to a new mom (esp. one recovering from  c-section)

2. What can I do for her without crowding her, hubby, and baby?

Thanks so much for the advice... I want to be the best sister/auntie I can right now!

Re: What can I do?

  • I was worried about crowding my sister too but it turned out to be a HUGE help that I was there (even for only two days). Offer to watch the baby between feedings so she can sleep. Clean her house (I'm not joking- she'll love you). Go grocery shopping and make sure they have easy to prepare foods and snack foods.

    Congrats on becoming an aunt!

These are all fabulous suggestions! Definitely offer to hold/watch the baby so that she can get some rest. Congrats!

  • Definitely prepare meals for her and her H. This will free up some time that they can use getting to know their baby...and sleeping.
  • things I liked after having baby -

    food

    sleep

    someone to help clean

my mom and mil were godsends and I'm sure your sister will feel the same way about having you there to help.

  • I agree with pp's. But also...I need the help now more so than when she was a few days old. When she was that young my concern was me being comfortable and to heal. Esp since when they are that small they sleep a lot. NOW I just want somebody to hold her and entertain her so I can clean my house.

What time should I be there? Big Smile

  • When my friends had their babies, I made them some meals that could be frozen and reheated. I've heard that it was super helpful. Any help really, and I bet they'll appreciate it
  • I'm a little late but definitely cooking and preparing meals. ASk if she needs any shopping done. And just watching the baby so she can nap or take a nice long shower.
