who's your medical insurance with?

we're on kaiser, but we're thinking of shopping around for other providers - at least, for me and the hub.  the girls will stay on kaiser because that's where they've both been covered since birth.

i just think we're paying an astronomical amount for our coverage and don't even really use it.  i know we have to have health insurance, but i don't mind switching to a PPO with an annual deductible to save some cash.

recommendations?

Re: who's your medical insurance with?

  • Isn't an HMO cheaper monthly than a PPO?

  • not based on the online quotes i'm getting so far.

the hub is an independent contractor, so he doesn't get to use his parent company's group plans.  we're currently paying $600 a month just for the two of us!  there's gotta be cheaper options than that.

  • My DH had a high deductible plan with Kaiser for $126/month and I am guessing he is older than you.  I was actually impressed with the few times DH had to go to the doctor.  He paid out of pocket because he was not even close to his deductible but his co-pays/office visits were cheap and his drugs were cheap too.  Plus he could always get a same day appointment even with a couple hours of notice.

When I was searching Blue Cross had some decently priced high deductible plans.  I have been on company paid Blue Cross plans for a couple of years now and I have had no problems with them.

PPO plans are nice if you do need to go to a specialist but they will probably cost you more.

If you are any meds that you are willing to take generic a lot of them are so cheap now that you don't even need drug coverage.  I got my last antibiotic for $4-it was cheaper than the $10 generic co-pay I was supposed to pay.

  • I have UnitedHealth PPO and IVF stuff aside, they have been fantastic. ?I hated Kaiser with a passion when I was on it 10+ years ago. ?:( ?:( ? :(

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • My HMO has always been free (or damn near close to free) through my companies, but PPO cost money.

Of course, I chose HMO because I'm a cheap mofo.?

So weird that HMO is not less expensive.

    I am currently on Pacificare.?

  • I also have United Healthcare PPO and have not had any major issues with them. The one minor issue I did have was resolved quickly.

  • I have Anthem (Blue Cross) POS (Point of Service). ?I have no complaints thus far... but I use the HMO side of things, and it's free through work. ?I just have a small copay at dr visits.
  • I have healthnet through work.

I really enjoy them and same as APK I have HMO through them no complaints!
