stolen from MM: how important is your birthday to you?

i'm cracking up at this post (starlily, i was 100% with you):

http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/12824215.aspx

i'm all about my birthday.  i claim the entire month of september as "birthday princess month."  although i only lord this over the [poor] folks who live with me ;)  i do a countdown, wear a tiara around the house on the actual day, drop hints all month long.  it's a big joke around here.

the hub jokes that the bean waited till october first to be born because she wanted her own birthday princess month all to herself.

that's my girl.

Re: stolen from MM: how important is your birthday to you?

  • My birthday became a consistant source of bad luck & disappointment once my parents split (I was 12), I still don't make a big deal out of it, although I had a string of fabulous birthdays from 18-20 in Vegas with my mom. :)

  • Not too big a deal. We usually go out to dinner by ourselves and then maybe out again with family.

My 30th was the biggest celebration I'd ever had.?

This year, we are tabling the fun until my trial is over.?

  • the OP needs to be slapped.  give me a break.

  • I never make a big deal about my birthday, but nobody ever really has my entire life. I was NOT the little girl who got birthday parties with all my friends invited. I desperately want a birthday where someone (well H) plans something for me, but H is such an awful planner, it's pathetic. He will keep asking me what I want to do for my birthday for like the entire month before, all the way up to the morning of when it's way too late to plan something, and it never really matters how many hints or suggestions I give him.

  • My birthday is pretty important to me. I like to make sure I spend it doing something fun. That's why I'm so annoyed that my birthday falls on Easter this year. It is the one holiday we always have to spend at my ILs, no exceptions. They have a ton of people over and I really don't feel like spending my birthday with a bunch of my ILs friends. Thankfully my mom and dad are coming and bringing me a birthday cake.

  • I am a birthday AW Princess! My mom has always made a big deal out of all of our birthdays...and me and my BFF ALWAYS aw'd the sh!t out of each others bdays too, so it never really stopped. Luckily MH understands and always goes out of his way to AW it too.

The OP is ridiculous and having a MAJOR communication malfunction.

  • I claim a birthday princess week for myself. I don't really care so much if other people acknowledge it, but I generally do whatever makes me happy during that week. As far as celebrations go, I'm happy with a nice dinner on the day of with the H and lunch with my BFFs somewhere close thereto.

I think the last big party I had was a girls' weekend in Napa for my 25th.

Ugh that sucks Brock! My birthday frequently falls on Fathers Day and I agree it blows to not be able to spend it the way you want! Hope your cake is yummy!!

  • I hate how people in that thread were generalizing guys. Not all guys are non-planners who don't take any initiative and there are plenty of women out there who don't plan things for their husbands. My H is alway great about planning things and surprises.

  • I agree with you, Brock.
Mr. Monkey is an excellent planner.
    Better than I am.
  • I'm a huge AW with my birthday. I like to plan things myself though because I don't ever expect other people to fuss over it.
  • I don't care about my birthday at all. ?Like, I don't even care to even go out to dinner to celebrate. ?When I was a little kid it was an entirely different story though. ?;)

  • My parents would go all out for our birthdays when we were kids, as a teenager I didnt really go big, then I started celebrating it again in college/early 20s. Once I past 25, I havent really cared.
  • My parents always took us out for our birthdays.  It was Shakey's Pizza for many years.  Now that we are older we get to pick where we go.  I have picked Fleming's, Ruths Chris, Bandera....over the last few years.  I don't remember having big birthday parties.  My birthday is in summer and you don't see your school friends as much.

My DH is not much of a planner and I have learned to accept this.  He will ask me the day of what I want to do.  I figure if he actually plans something one day, it will be a nice surprise.

A couple of my friends make a big deal out of birthdays so they usually do stuff to make it special but then of course I have to do it in return.

  • I don't really make a big deal of it. Like I've rarely taken off work for it - we usually celebrate the weekend before. I'm happy with a nice dinner out, and typically I do get very spoiled by H, and I return the favor.?

Zee's my mom was always the same way when I was kid. I remember having a my little pony and rainbow brite theme birthdays.

H is really great about asking what I would like to do, when, where, etc.

My friends and I use to throw some big parties, but haven't done a big one since my 25th.

Now we just have a BBQ and play Wii IMO almost just as fun.

  • I am a birthday AW.

  • I am a total AW about my birthday...and Wan, September is MY birthday princess month!!! ;)  I am also a total birthday AW about my half-birthday (which is next Wednesday, if you're curious...). :)
  • In recent years my birthday has meant less and less to me.

    :-/

  • I got married a week before my birthday so clearly its not that important b/c that year the wedding/ honeymoon overshadowed my bday. Then my H's bday is 2 weeks after mine.

  • imagenabum:
    I am a birthday AW.

Me too. I celebrate my birth month. Yes... I have youngest child syndrome.

  • I don't usually make a big deal out of it. It's so close to Christmas that when I was young I learned to lower my expectations since everyone was always busy or out of town.

DH planned a big surpise bday party last year, it was my favorite bday, even if it was a bday/holiday party combo party.
