Maternity leave :(

So my company has decided that they only want to give me 6 weeks leave.  I was planning on taking 9.  I'm just heart broken.  It's my bosses fault because she never checked with anyone.  I told her that I don't know if my doctor will release me before 8 weeks because of the c-section.

Re: Maternity leave :(

  • i am sorry to hear that...hopefully you are your employer can work something out so you can stay out a bit longer to recover. good luck.
  • That's really a bummer Brandy.  I'm kind of surprised since most places give you more time if you've had a c-section (or at least that I've heard of/seen).  If you wanted to take the extra 3 weeks would you have to take it unpaid or would you be able to do a short term disability or anything?  What about sick time?  I think with my work if I would have a baby I could use sick time after the company granted maternity leave is done.
  • Oh that 6 weeks is including 2 weeks of sick/vacation time and then 4 weeks unpaid.  I haven't been there long enough to get paid maternity leave.  And while I understand that, I was willing to take 7 weeks unpaid.  What bothers me most is how this was handled.  A month ago my boss asked me my plan and I told her and she was fine with it.  Then I send her a reminder email a few days ago with the specific dates and she realizes she never cleared it with HR or her boss.  It's so frustrating since I am so close now to delivering.
  • Oh wow...that really stinks then.  I'm sorry :(
  • Wow, that sounds really stressful to have this come up so close to your delivery!  I hope they can work something out for you.

  • Oh, that is stressful! Does HR know you're having a C-section? You're right about getting 8 weeks. That is typically the case. Hopefully your doctor will not agree to send you back before then.
