robson street is the main area for shopping, I remember there being quite a few restaurants and such in that area.

It's lovely, but if your main focus is Vancouver, and you're not spending too much time there, Victoria is quite of out of the way -- like a full day trip.
FWIW, I went to Vancouver years ago when I was a teen and had a good time, but I don't remember details to relay to you, except that it is a much bigger city and far more cosmopolitan than Victoria.
My husband lived in Canada for a few years and he LOVED Vancouver. There is some place there called Earl's that makes the best ribs.
