sister update. again.

just a recap - sister had headaches for 2 weeks straight (now going on 4th week), eye dr. said her optical nerve is elevated, got MRI and catscan done and nothing showed up, her blood pressure is very low, white blood cell count is elevated, and she is anemic.  '

ok so, my sister had her follow up with her primary care physician yesterday.  he told her she is suffering from migraines.  she is not happy with his diagnosis as she can't believe she could have a migraine for now 1 month straight (she had one pain free day last week).  she is taking all of her results and seeing a neurologist soon.  the neurologist is actually her son's friend's dad (got that?) and she knows him very well so hopefully it is just migraines and she is just being cautious!  the eye dr. does want her to come back in 2 months to see if there is any change in the elevated optical nerve.  her eye dr. would like to  keep an eye on it to make sure it is not getting any worse.

thanks for all your thoughts.  i am glad it is nothing serious thus far!

Re: sister update. again.

  • I hope it continues to look like migraines and nothing worse.  I'm glad you are keeping us updated...she'll continue to be in my thoughts.
  • I'm glad she's taking the next step and seeing a neurologist to hopefully rule out anything more serious.  You can never be too cautious with your health!

I know your sister and I shared similar symptoms, although hers seemed more severe, but I find it a bit strange since I too suffer from migraines and after my recent issues had my doctor prescribe me a different migraine medication that seems to be working better.  And now recently I have been thinking that I need to see an eye dr. since my vision (at times) is not what it used to be.  Does your sister have any previous eye problems, meaning wears glasses or contacts?

  • charlene - my sister had no previous problems with her eyes.  i think it would be a good idea for you to see your eye dr.  your symptoms are very similar!
  • Well if it is migraines hopefully that would be easily treatable.  But I understand how frustrating it is not have a diagnosis and a second opinion is definitely a good idea.  My sister has some weird vitamin D issue for the last few years that nobody can figure out and it's frustrating.
  • I'm glad to hear that she is taking some further steps.  I hope that it is nothing more than migranes either so it is easily treated.  It's so frustrating when you know something is wrong and no one can figure it out.  Maybe she needs to go see Dr. House if she doesn't get her answers...lol!  Seriously though...I will continue to keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
  • I'm glad she is finally getting some answers. I know how stressful that day was for you. I think it's a great idea that she check with a neurologist to get more info. It sounds like it's someone she's already comfortable with. I hope things continue to go well.
  • lol lesli on the dr. house comment!!
  • I'm glad that she's seeking some follow up care.  I hope that she gets this figured out soon.  It's very frustrating to go through tests, not figure it out, and still have symptoms.  Hope all continues to go well!

  • I'm sorry they haven't been able to pinpoint something just yet, but I'm glad it isn't anything serious so far.  Keeping her in my thoughts....
  • I hope they figure out what is going on with her soon.  It is so frustrating when you know something is wrong and you have to wait for appointments to get results.
  • Interesting Allie...I will have to get an eye appt. soon just to get checked out.  I'll be keeping her in my thoughts though and I hope they get this figured out soon.
