Do you floss?

Be honest. Do you? DH and I don't. Our parents never did either. Are we not normal?

Re: Do you floss?

  • Yes I do.  And so does DH.  But we are probably the exception because we are both in the dental field (DH is a dentist and I am an assistant).  I would say most of our patients don't floss.  You are definitely normal!

  • No, I don't either.  Then when I go to the dentist and they go on about how I need to floss, I feel like the most abnormal, disgusting, poor self-hygiene person.  Glad to hear that I'm not really alone though Big Smile
  • No Embarrassed  I used to be really good about it when I was a kid, but I guess I let things slip when I went to college.  One of these days I'll start again!
  • occasionally.... need to more often... I use those floss picks... it just makes it more easier and convenient and makes me more apt to floss
  • Yes, I do floss every day for about the last two years.  I went to a new dentist when I moved and they said all of these things about my gums.  I had always had perfectly fine dental checkups before and always went to the dentist every 6 months.  From talking to others who moved to MD, it's a common thing to be told so instead of doing the treatment I started flossing every day and I've really seen an improvement as has the dentist.

  • yes- not everyday though.  I found it makes such a difference with my gums and when I get my teeth cleaned.  My gums used to be so sensitive with the cleaning but now it actually feels good!

  • Only when I have something stuck in my teeth and I can feel it.  DH flosses more regularly than I do, but not every day.

I'm not all that worried about it.  For 29 years my dentist has been saying I'm a perfect patient (never any cavities or other tooth/gum issue), so I must be doing something right.

  • Yes, but not everyday.  If I don't keep up with it, my gums bleed when I floss, which is gross.  I've gotten into a better habit with it since we moved and my dentist noticed.

I wouldn't say you're abnormal.  I went on a 6-week camping trip for a college course.  One night, we had corn-on-the-cob and I passed my roll of floss around because many people hadn't packed any.

  • No but I use mouthwash every night. I do need to start flossing. I do when I have something in my teeth.

  • I do! ?At least 3 times a week, I go through spurts though sometimes I'll floss every night, then sometimes like once a week. ?I have the floss sitting right out on the bathroom sink so i can't forget.
  • I usually only floss when I have something stuck in my teeth, but I go through these phases when I'll floss every day for a week or two.

  • No. I keep saying I'm going to do better about that and I fail miserably.
  • nope. and every time the dentist gets on my case about it, I vow that I am going to...but that only lasts about a day or two. DH makes fun of me because my excuse is that I dont have time to do it. haha
  • not unless I can feel something in there, like after eating corn on the cob.
  • I do.  Almost daily, sometimes more than once a day depending on the things I've eaten.  I'm an Oral-B Superfloss addict - try it, you'll understand!
