So, I got a call from my mom yesterday about my grandma. Apparently, around 11am, my grandma got a call. She picked up and the person on the other end says "hi, it's your grandson" My grandma (in typical grandma fashion) just says "ooooh Scooter (what we call my brother) hi!" and proceeded to talk for a bit.
About 5 minutes in, my "brother" told her that he had bad news--he is in Toronto and was arrested for DUI. He told my grandma he needed money to get out of jail. My grandma asked how much he needed and he told her $3k. She told him that she didnt have that kind of money to which he asked her if she had a credit card. She said yes, and he asked her to give him the number over the phone. She told him she couldnt do that then asked if he had called my mother. He hung up.
She was so upset and called my mom, who didn't pick up. She then called my brother who told her that it was not him who called her! Thank goodness she didn't give out any info, but she swears that the person on the other end sounded like my brother.
I did a google search and found this: http://www.gosanangelo.com/news/2009/mar/19/grandparents-target-of-phone-call-scam-texas-ag/ .
Just wanted to let you ladies know, so you can warn your grandparents. How freaking scary!?! My poor grandma. My mom called my other grandma to tell her about it and she said that she was glad they didnt call her bc she would have given him the $.
Some people are really messed up....
