Did you see this?

This house is right next to our house. I feel so sad for this family. We are going to try and get some things together for the family and the kids.

Re: Toni

  • I didn't even notice this? That's a shame. Let me know if you hear anything about donations.
  • I will let you know. I was talking to Drew this morning and the construction guys actually saw the house smoking and one of them kicked down the front door to get the girl out... she had minor burns but it could have been a lot worse if he didn't go in after her. We saw the family over at the house yesterday trying to salvage anything they could but nothing was left. It was horrible.
  • Here are the updates I just read:

"We're worried about the children," Westenberger said, as she asked DeMora about the clothing sizes of his three granddaughters, 19, 16 and 3.

Over at Mugs, owner Sara Carreras said they started a collection early Wednesday morning for clothing for the girls. Patrons also started donating cash for the family. By shortly after noon they had already collected some $250, Carreras said. "

  • Thanks - I'll have to drop something off at Mugs. We usually end up there over the weekend anyway.

I just cleaned out my closet and dresser.  I have an enormous garbage bag of clothes.  I was going to give them to Goodwill but these girls obviously need them right away.  Let me know how I can donate the clothes to them.

  • We're donating our Casual for a Cause money for the month of April to this family. (I teach for Swedesboro-Woolwich) As far as clothing donations, unless something has been set up already and is in the papers and I haven't seen it, try calling King's Things Thrift Shop in Swedesboro. They take all donations and most of the time when there's a family in extreme need they'll let them "shop" for free.

I know the owner of Mug's Coffee Shop is taking donations for clothing/money to give to the family. They set up a box for people to drop things off. You can give them a call today and see what they need or ask any questions you may have. They are open till 4 today. =)

Staci-we are going to stop by Mugs tomorrow and see what we can give and what sizes the girls need in clothing. It breaks my heart to see a family go through this. Yesterday when I came home from work they already had the trucks knocking down the remains of the house. So sad!

  • I just have to say that what you are doing is SO nice.  When I was in 5th grade, our house burnt down to the ground three days after Christmas and we lost everything.  I know that we would have been so appreciative of anything that was donated.  It's so traumatic when you're in a situation like that, and it's really heartwarming to know that you have the sympathy, care and concern of the community.
