Stimulus Package ?

I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on this. LOL

We got an email at work that says the new payroll model had been loaded into the corporate system and we should be seeing the stimulus difference.  (Okay, I'd heard everything from $8-20 add'l per check, but I guess that's PER WEEK.)

So I open my paycheck and yes, there's a difference in my federal tax withholding.  Great.  But when you take Gross Pay minus the deductions listed, it doesn't come out right. LOL  (Fake numbers, but let's say gross pay is $1500, total deductions of $300 (healthcare, taxes, etc.)  My net pay SHOULD BE ($1500-300) $1200, only it deposited $1275.  Huh?

CWs and I have been discussing it and no one can make heads nor tails of it.  Someone said it shouldn't even be applied until April 1st, so most of us are concerned they're going to turn around, realize their mistake, and TAKE MONEY BACK from us.

Anyone?

Re: Stimulus Package ?

  • We've had our payroll updates for 2 or 3 weeks now.  I get $16 more a week and some higher paid employees are getting $10.  It varies depending on your pay rate.  Not sure why your deductions are matching up.  Can you talk to your payroll manager about it?

  • I have no clue.  If I were you I would go to whoever is in charge of bookkeeping/accounting and ask what's going on.  That seems a little weird.  Is there a "bonus" added to your check somewhere (to account for the deductions not adding up correctly)?
  • We don't get bonuses, but that actually made me LOL Mandy.  Us... get bonuses?! LOL  They consider us keeping our jobs a bonus, I think.

We don't have a Payroll Manager, and if we do, he/she is in India. Indifferent

  • I don't mean a bonus in the normal sense of bonus.  We have a "bonus" built into some of our girls' checks to offset their cost for certain things (health insurance for instance).  It shows up as a bonus but really it's just them being reimbursed.
  • My job is my bonus too!  I would ask around and see if there is someone you can talk to.  It may take talking to several people before you get to the right one.

  • I mentioned it to my manager (who then added up the numbers and came up with the same thing I did... X+Y =/=Z!)  Two of my CWs have the same thing, so she sent a message to Payroll.  Of course, payroll has been offshored which has proven two things: mistakes increase, response time decreases.
  • Well if it's coming up that you were paid more then you should have been just be sure you don't spend that money because next paycheck they might realize their mistake and take that money back.

EXACTLY.  I would like to know if that's going to be my new payroll amount or not (if it is, we're adjusting our automatic savings ASAP!  That would be AWESOME.)

But... two CWs AND myself are having this issue... so who knows how many other people in this company are.  (It's a huge company.)  A lot of people could be SERIOUSLY screwed if they do spend it (and I suspect a lot of people would - my manager didn't question it. She just assumed it was more because of the stimulus. TG my CW noticed 1+1+1 =/=3!)

  • If I were you, I would put the extra amount of money in a savings account to get some interest on it, just in case your next check has that much less (or just a little less).

And yet another reason why payroll should NOT be outsourced!

That's a good idea, Mandy... not sure how much we'd get on so little an amount though in two weeks.

There are a lot of things that shouldn't be outsourced... we have seen SO MANY PROBLEMS coming up with the things that have been outsourced to date and of course, nothing will stop the "It will save us money" train!

  • As my dad says: anything more than you had yesterday is good.  That's why we always put a little bit ($10/$20) into savings every week.  So we'll have a little bit more than we did yesterday.
