Speaking of food tv....anyone interested in a cooking club?
The idea of having a cooking club has been tossed around in the past. I think could be a good way to share and learn new recipes/techniques, try new cuisine, and share a love of foodiness.
I am willing to organize if anyone else is interested. I found this little guide for doing a cooking club on the internet -
http://www.bonappetit.com/pdfs/cookingclub.pdf
If you are interested, what do expect from a cooking club?
What would you like to learn/share?
When is a good time for you to meet?
To start I was thinking we could meet at a coffee house or restaurant to talk about ideas for actvities, how often we want to meet, etc...
Re: Speaking of food tv....anyone interested in a cooking club?
This sounds like a fun idea to me. I'd be interested in participating if others want to do this.
My parents used to be in a cooking club, which they called "gormet." For them, it was a kids-free night that they enjoyed socializing with friends and eating food. Each person/ couple would bring a dish, and I think there was often a theme. So I guess that's my "expectation" of a cooking club, not that it would have to be that way.
I can't think of anything specifically that I'd like to learn, but it's always fun to try to new things. For day-to-day meals, we're usually in enough a hurry that I tend to fall back on certain things rather than experimenting much.
For meeting times, I could be somewhat flexible, but probably once a month or every two months would make sense to me for frequency.
I would like to learn new recipes, that real people have tried. I hate looking for recipes online, trying to make them and then realize there are issues with the recipe...wrong cooking time/temp etc. (I had this happen yesterday)
Weekday evenings are best for me.
YES YES YES!! Though it might be at least a little while until I really participate;)
If you are interested, what do expect from a cooking club? Just a nice time to spend together and share some good eats. I'm a big fan of keeping it relaxed, but I'll go along with whatever everyone else wants!
What would you like to learn/share? Good question! I'd love to learn/try to make some things I've never made before - maybe some new types of cuisines, etc?
When is a good time for you to meet? Evenings and weekends. As long as I can plan ahead, I'm flexible.
I would definitely be interested as well. I think alot of the ladies here know that I love to experiment and try new recipes although I don't deem myself a foodie or anything of that level!!
I've never done a cooking club before so I probably don't have any real expectations other than have fun and try new things or ways of doing things/preparing new dishes, etc.
The last question is hard one for me because of my teaching schedule these days.
I would like to learn new recipes, we get stuck in a rut making the same things because they are easy.
I would like to explore making meals with local ingredients. It might be fun to do a trip to a farmers market, farm, or winery and then make a meal with fresh local ingredients. A cheese night would be fun too. We could start by sharing favorite recipes.
Evenings are best for me, weekends would have to be planned. Wednesdays are not good during Lost season
Jen - Do you have classes on a fixed night now?
Lilian - we will be here when you are ready! Congrats again!
Where would be convenient for everyone? Wegman's cafe, Cornerstone in Camp Hill, somewhere in York or Lancaster? I am in the York area, but I can travel.
I am definitely interested! I love to cook and learn new recipes.
I've never heard of a cooking club before the nest, so I don't really have any expectations....just a casual, fun, gathering centered around eating, learning and exchanging recipes.
I would like to learn more ethnic dishes - Mexican, Chinese, etc as well as quick dinners. oh and baking...pretty much anything related to food!
Childcare is always a problem for us, so its a crapshoot. DH's schedule varies. It all just depends on if he is working or not so he can stay home with the little one(s).
That sounds like fun! I would love to do it. I'm not often in the area, but if I knew about the days ahead of time, I could try to come occasionally if you wouldn't mind that.
I would love to learn new recipes, especially try new things and help me get out of the rut of the same old dishes. It's helpful to have tried and true recipes and share dishes.
I don't have any expectations, I just think it would be fun to try new foods and talk about food and baking and share new dishes.
I wouldn't be able to come every time though so if you want a regular group, that's fine.
This sounds like fun Denise! I think once a month or every other month would work for me too. Week nights are best as well.
One idea I thought of after reading CBs post is perhaps one Cooking Club GTG could be used to prepare a meal or two ahead of time for freezing.
I'd be interested...I do a food blog for fun, so I love food
My schedule is pretty insane right now but I'd like you gals to keep me in the loop.
I'm in York, and prefer not to go REAL far, but willing to travel some.
Weekday evenings are absolutely out for me though (gym, cook dinner, clean up, walk dog, prep for next day, collapse into bed is me every night) so early sunday or sometime on saturday is best.
... every single day of forever.
