I have something coming up that I'm extremely stressed about. I'm losing sleep at night and have a knot in my stomach almost all of the time. Anyone have any suggestions of ways to mentally prepare myself for something stressful or ways to de-stress?
Re: I'm very stressed
I tend to have a lot of stress/ anxiety.... taking a big trip, making a presentation at work, my wedding!, etc. I don't know what your situation is, though, so I dunno if my suggestions will help.
There's medication, which I have opted out of, but I find that the one true way to get over my stress/ anxiety is to picture the entire event start to finish.. either practicing a presentation a million times, allowing myself 2-minute regrouping sessions at my wedding, etc. And then when I'm actually in the situation, I try to stay positive, cheery, and be concerned with the actual event, not the part that's stressing me out.
Don't know if this helped, but GL!
That does help. I always imagine the absolute worst. Maybe I can start by trying to not picture the worst that could happen. My imagination can get away with me.
That sucks that your stuck dealing with a runaway imagination. Just know that what is in your head is no where near what is actually going to happen.
If its an event that has me stressed out, I make a countdown and plan something really fun for afterwards. That way I can focus on the fun thing and just getting through the event.
I find a distraction to get me through, something that I can use to bury my head in the sand with. Books, the internet, house work. Anything that can occupy my thoughts instead of it.
couldnt have said it better myself
