So BIL is getting married in...
..Nicaragua! In 3 months and we just found out!
Anyone been there or know anything about it? I'm excited for them but is it wrong I wish they had picked a nicer location for a destination wedding?
Re: So BIL is getting married in...
You might want to try paging Mxolisi on the Travel or P&CE boards. She recently traveled there and was having a great time ...... until she and her H got kidnapped/robbed. :-/
My good friend is Nicaraguan and was last there 2-3 years ago. She's out of the office today, but I can e-mail her and get back to you on any recs.
WTF 3 months notice to a destination like that is sh!tty planning on their part and rude if they're actually inviting people. Yikes.
I dunno dude it sounds like they don't want a crowd there IMO.
I've never been but sounds awesome. Are you definately going?
That was my first thought, combined with why Nicaragua? Are you going to go?
this...(at least thats my theory)
They hinted awhile ago that they were considering a DW but never got any finalized details until this week. I told H the decision whether or not to go would be up to him since it was his brother and he was torn between not going out of the principle that they waited to the last minute to tell us (and if they really wanted to go they would have told us earlier) and feeling like he should go bc it was his brother. He finally decided that if he didnt go he'd probably end up regretting it since he's so close to his brother. They just told the ILs last night and apparently they were not very pleased but they are still going...which is huge since my FIL is a huge opponent of DWs and very vocal about it.
The good news is that they have a coordinator down there (BIL fiance knows the lady which is my guess as to why they picked Nicaragua) that is scheduling shuttles for us from the airport and already booked a private house for all the guests. I looked up the town on wikipedia and it says its one of the more untouched areas of Nicaragua that most resembles Costa Rica (whatever that means..)
oh, HELL no.
Whoops missed this post.
I'll definitely page Mxolisi! I'd also love any info you can get from your friend! The wedding is suppose to be in San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua so if she knows anything about the area and what I can expect that would be great.
I hope they have a safe trip, sounds kind of scary.

It certainly gives people an out for the wedding considering that most people cannot afford a trip out of the country (let alone the state) right now. It's also a little sad for the people who would probably really want to go but just can't because of the cost.
I hope you have fun and stay safe if you do end up going.
I have heard of some really awesome places in Nicaragua, even a place that was featured in one of the Wedding Magazines - it looked so awesome!
However, any sort of Destination wedding planned three months away is lame. Lame, I tell you. LAME.

We're only going bc its BIL, I definitely would not be going if it was not for family. I checked airfare today and its not as terrible as I expected so I'm starting to warm up to the idea. Still not looking forward to all the shots we're going to have to get
.
Here's the resort where we will be staying at and where the wedding will be...looks nice enough: http://www.piedrasyolas.com/index.html
