Am I asking for too much $$

I've been applying for pt jobs just to make some extra money so I can pay down my CC's faster. ?I've been asking for a minimum of $8 an hour. ?I have 4 years experience in retail and a full time job doing employee benefits. ?Do you think I'm asking for too much? ?I've only received one call back and they wanted to offer me $7.50 an hour. ?I'm turning them down because I just don't think it's worth working all weekend and basically never seeing DH for. ?

Re: Am I asking for too much $$

  • I've never worked retail so I don't know what's too much to ask. But is the extra 50 cents an hour really going to make it worth giving up time with your husband?

With the way the economy has been lately, there's probably a lot of people jumping on any chance for extra money so I don't know how much better you'll get right now. But if you don't absolutely need the job then I guess it couldn't hurt to wait it out a bit if that's what you really want to do. Either way, you'll wind up sacrificing something-time with your DH or the money to pay down the debt.

I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz
  • I dont think so. I think more around 10 is what you should be looking toward
  • I would not work for below $8 an hour, preferably $10+.

Also look at the discounts you might get.  I worked at a gym forever pt and started at $7 (when I was 16) ended at a little over $10 (after college I was working pt at night while I worked ).  The big perk was the free membership, which saved me $450 a year.

  • I don't think I'd ever work for less than $10/hour. I know it's hard right now though.

Have you considered direct sales (home demonstrations)? I sell jewelry on the side, and there are plenty of other companies too. you would just need to know enough people to get your business started and have your first shows. But I can tell you - I make much more than $10/hr. The lowest I've made so far for 1 show is $200 (for about 2-3 hrs).

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies.  I wasn't sure if I was being unrealistic, but now I know I'm not!  I thought about the in house parties, but I don't think I'd really be good at that.
  • With the economy the way it is, retail is probably finding no problem finding people who will work for minimum wage.  But that may not be worth it for you..I wouldn't want to do it...

However, I heard Home Depot pays more like $10/hr.

  • Thanks for the Home Depot suggestion.  I actually applied there and haven't heard anything.  I've applied all over gods creation and only got one phone call!
  • i know the economy is bad...but i dont think that is too much!

heck, i even pay a babysitter $10/hr for my 3 month old, and all she ever does is sleep and eat!?
