Anyone change their name on their passport recently?
I am a procrastinator and waited until the last second to change my passport before our Eurotrip May 1. I sent it in March 9 and am just wondering when I should expect it.
How long did it take to get yours back?

I've heard it doesn't take too long. I still haven't changed mine either - I figure I'm not going anywhere! haha...
I work for the passport agency, if you havent gotten it yet call the NPIC ( you can get the toll free number from travel.state.gov). We are SO backed up because of a crazy influx of applications and the travel requirements changing again in june.
They should expedite your application for free because you applied more than 3 weeks ago. Call ASAP or you will end up waiting in line all day in Philly to get it before your trip.

Thank you so much for the response! I called the number and got nowhere. It kept referring me to the website which is saying that it is down for routine maintenance. Does the website usually work (if I were to check back later today)?
They cashed my check on 3/12, does that make a difference with when they will get to it?

That means your application entered the system on 3/12. You have a few choices, you can wait and *hope* you get it back before you leave or wait until exactly 2 weeks before your trip and schedule an appt. at the passport agency in Philly (take the earliest appt -- usually 8am -- so you get in and out of there fast).
Going to Philly means you need to bring photos, a new filled out application and any citizenship evidence you have along with a copy of your marriage cert and your travel itinerary showing when you leave.
Chances are your application and old passport are at a mega cener, most likely in New Hampshire, so your paperwork isn't in Philly and you need to have these other things with you to get the passport processed.
Did you write your travel date on your application? If you did you will most likely get it on time as we are physically going throgh every application and taking out people who are leaving soon.
Hmm...well, I did write that I was traveling May 1, so hopefully I will get it back. When I sent it in, the website said it was taking 2-4 weeks, so I didn't really stress!
I guess worst case scenario, I will go to Philly, which is not a huge deal since i work in the city anyway. It would be a pain, though.
Is the website status check normally up? It says it is down for routine maintenance.

The last time I looked expected processing time was 4 weeks. I paid for expedited service and it took exactly one week to arrive. I had to though, as I am traveling April 12th.
Because of the overwhelming demand on the system, it goes down for maintance quite frequently. I would keep checking back.
Now, I didn't tell you this, but you could also contact your congressman and have his office get in touch with the agency. Congressional calls get handeled very fast. Just sayin..... lol
Krista- I sent mine in around the same time as you and I haven't gotten my new passport back yet either. I'm not traveling any time soon, but I need it as ID for my national board exams in Mid-May. They did cash my check about 2 weeks ago, but I guess that doesn't mean anything. I hope we both get them in the mail so we don't have to hunt it down in Philly!
