Hey! So you are done May 1st? Aren't they going to let you finish out the school year? Or is it like student teaching, where you have a coop in there also so you have to leave?

They need to do this in the eled dept... a year long student teaching for the post-baccs. Argh.

Re: **mikenlinds**

  • Yeah! It's all up in the air...they've talked to 2 out of the 4 of us, because they really really want to work it out so that we can stay on as full-time building subs and they would pay us. It all depends on the budget, unfortunately, and we still haven't been given an answer. I've made it known to them that it's not about the money to me right now...I've been with the kids since day one and I'm not about to leave a month and a half before my kids graduate. I've been told that I can probably just keep showing up and do my normal thing, and that no one will blink an eye. As long as that is true, that's what I'm planning to do if they can't hire me on.

I've heard talk of MU trying to get this program expanded to eled and even undergrads. It's such an amazing program. I think as long as the Ed majors would go into the urban schools with the right attitude and an open mind, it would be totally successful. I've learned so much this year!

    When will you be certified??

  •  That would be totally awesome if you were able to just continue on. I understand how hard it is to leave them. I still miss my class from last year so much!

I'll be certified in December, and all because I had to go through a block before I did my student teaching. The eled dept has a program that I could work and have it count towards my student teaching, but I asked my adviser about it, since I was working in a district, and she said that there were too many hoops to jump through to get it to work. :/ It is nothing like the program you are doing. I know what you mean though... I learned A TON last year working in the classroom for a whole year, and every time I sub I learn more. It is awesome. I really wish that I could have done the program that you were able to do.

Do you have any prospects for next year yet?

  • That's great! Where are you subbing? There are a few openings, but so far there hasn't been anything to get too excited about. Unfortunately, I've heard that a lot of people don't get interviewed until the summer and many times don't get hired until about a week or two before school starts :( It's going to be a long summer of waiting around, that's for sure...
  • I'm subbing for the Spring Grove SD at all 3 of their elementary schools. They keep me hopping!

On the positive side, I do have a few teacher friends that were hired at the end of the school year for a job the following school year. Some were offered the job the day of their interview, on their way home from the interview!

I am nervous I won't get a job right after certification beacuse I''m being certified in December. I have a feeling I'll be a long term sub until the end of the school year and then get a job the following year.

  • I know. It's scary! I hate not knowing. How did everything go today??
  • Good... I just had to get blood taken. But I hate having it taken. I always get so dizzy. However... it is help to figure out what is going on with why I'm not getting (and staying) pregnant, so it is good. I have to have more blood taken later this month. Now next month will SUCK when I have to do the HSG, but I'll start Clomid in July so it is all for a positive outcome! Thanks for asking. :)
